Okay, now that the dust has settled and we've caught up on some sleep - the time has come for our long Outlaws Drill Team Competition post!
This was only our second time hosting a competition, and to host it this year at the historic Kentucky Horse Park was an undertaking. But we've had our sights on a competition there since we began, and this weekend was the realization of another big dream for our team. We couldn't have asked for better weather, and the day went as smoothly as it could have for all of us.
First and foremost, thank you to all of our teams who decided to join us, from Wisconsin to North Carolina! You all were so gracious and kind with the little blunders, everyone was ready at the gate, and were cheering each other on. Drill really is like a family, we all just want to see each other be safe, have badass runs, and have fun. There was plenty of that this weekend!
Thank you to Heidi Hampton Young for judging and for her guidance leading up to this event, including sponsorship of the brag flags that our year end award team got to take home. Thank you Paul & Linda Walsh for announcing and keeping the day running smoothly. Thank you Jodi for scribing, and Taylored Equine Bodywork for running music. Thank you Kaley for being our time-keeper and Ginger for filming and being our gate person. Thank you to the rest of the Outlaws team for chipping in wherever you were needed this weekend from set-up to tear down and getting stuck in traffic picking up pizza - every one of you was crucial to this weekend's success!
Thank you to Joyce Voet (from the Young Guns) and Mary Miller (from the Silver Spurs) for going in on this Midwest Drill Team Series with us and helping realize the crazy vision we had to make it a full series - we couldn't have done it without you guys!
Thank you to Wayne L Williams for livestreaming the event so everyone could watch, near and far. Also to his sponsors on Speaking of Horses TV that donated gifts for our first place winners in several divisions.
We are giving an extra special shout out to the American Angels 4H Equestrian Drill Team for making the trip all the way from New York to watch the show and dream for next year! We hope you all enjoyed your time in Kentucky, as well as your set of books from Mark Plowman to study up on.
Last but not least, thank you to our own sponsors for contributing awards, gift cards, books, and more. You helped our competitors feel extra special this weekend, and we loved getting to share your generosity with them!
We are already looking at dates for next year to return to the Kentucky Horse Park - we will share them when we have them finalized! Can't wait to see you all again next fall! Much love and ROCK ON! π€π€
