The 2026 Minnesota State High School Clay Target League Championship has concluded for us, and what a season it was for the Pierz High School Trap Team.

A special note about this competition is that it is the world‘s largest shooting competition with Minnesota being considered the trapshooting capital of the nation. Minnesota has an estimated 12,000 students participating in MSHSL Trapshooting and of those participating nearly 8,000 compete in Alexandria at the Championship tournament.

Our varsity team finished with a score of 461, placing 8th in Class 5A. The team shot exceptionally well during the first half of the day, but strong afternoon winds made for some challenging conditions. Even so, our athletes stayed focused, competed hard, and represented Pierz well.

Leading the way for varsity were Zachary Medek (95), Daniel Niznik (93), Samuel Schyma (92), Lucas Scott (91), Brody Becker (90), and Jacob Smith (90). Other varsity contributors included Henry Stamm (89), Callan Wagner (80), Emily Boser (79), Jackson Leeb (79), Carter Stich (77), and Isabelle Smith (70).

Our JV team was led by Sebastian Baert (83), Caleb Wurzer (78), Alex Lyons (75), Aidan Medek (71), Katlyn Gotvald (71), Kaidyn Johnson (69), Stephen Wurzer (68), Kalie Keck (67), Aalyus Curwick (66), Lukas Baert (66), Reese Wenner (64), Miles Seward (63), Eli Kapus (61), and others who contributed throughout the season.

Our novice squad was highlighted by Medora Baert (74), Karsen Engel (69), Nolan Cebulla (61), Cecilia Baert (60), David Niznik (57), Evangeline Baert (53), and Lydia Niznik (52).

While we did not advance to the championship round, this group has a lot to be proud of. They put in the work all season, supported one another, and continued to improve week after week.

Thank you to our athletes, families, coaches, sponsors, and the Eastern Morrison County Sportsman’s Club for making this season possible. Your support allows our students to have opportunities that would not be possible otherwise.

Finally, congratulations to our seniors on their graduation. Thank you for your leadership, dedication, and commitment to the program. We wish you the very best in whatever comes next.

We are proud of this team and excited for the future of Pierz Trap Shooting.
