⛳ Okay golfers… what’s YOUR favorite club in the bag?

We handed the interview over to two of our junior golfers today, and they had some very important questions for each other. 😂

“What’s your favorite golf club… and WHY?”

One golfer couldn’t choose just one, his driver AND putter made the list. Honestly, we respect it. 😂 One gets the ball started and the other gets the dang thing in the hole.

Our other golfer picked his trusty 7-iron. ⛳

But there’s actually a lot of learning happening in this little conversation.

🏌️ The driver is built for distance and is usually used from the tee on longer holes.

⛳ The 7-iron is one of those wonderfully useful clubs junior golfers can learn a LOT with. It can help them practice solid contact, direction, distance control and approach shots.

🎯 And the putter? It may not make the biggest swing, but every golfer quickly learns just how important it is when the scorecard comes out. 😂

And while they’re learning about golf clubs, they’re also practicing something we care about just as much: communication.

Asking a good question.
Listening to someone else's answer.
Looking at the person who's speaking.
Thinking before answering.
Explaining WHY instead of only saying, “because I like it.” 😂
And getting comfortable speaking in front of other people and a camera.

Golf gives kids so many opportunities to build confidence that have absolutely nothing to do with how far they can hit a ball.

BEFORE THEY GIVE UP ON GOLF…CHECK THEIR CLUBS!

When kids are first learning golf, they don’t know the difference between struggling because they’re new and struggling because their equipment doesn’t fit.

They just know they keep missing.

And when the other kids are making contact, hitting the ball farther or celebrating great shots, that can start to feel pretty disheartening.

A child may feel embarrassed in front of their teammates, frustrated with themselves or begin thinking, “Maybe I’m just not good at golf and shouldn't play.”

That’s why properly fitted junior clubs matter.

A club that is too long, too heavy or too stiff can be harder for a small golfer to control. Instead of learning a natural swing, they may start changing their body and movement just to manage the club.

And then we’re trying to correct a swing that the equipment may have helped create in the first place.

This is one reason we use UpSwing Golf.

We measure both height AND wrist-to-floor because two 9-year-olds can be the exact same age and have completely different bodies.

The goal is simple: put equipment in their hands that fits the golfer who is standing in front of us.

Because learning golf takes time. There will be missed balls, bad shots and plenty of “WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!” moments. 😂

That’s part of golf.

But we never want a child fighting equipment that was never right for them and believing the struggle means they aren’t capable.

Sometimes a little confidence starts with something as simple as having the right club in your hands. 💚

We will be learning basic swing mechanics, rules of the game, history, manners and etiquette on the course, the mental part of the game, building confidence and the love of golf.

Has your child been asking to TRY golf or wondering what it actually feels like to play out on a real golf course?

On Sunday, August 30th from 2–5 PM, Florida Junior Golf & Watson Links are giving 18 kids ages 7–17 the opportunity to learn the basics, build confidence & then head OUT ON THE GOLF COURSE!

Best part? It's completely FREE.

From 2–3 PM, Coach Roger, Coach Jorge & our Watson Links Mentors will work with the kids on basic swings, hitting the ball, safety, golf etiquette, course manners & what to expect on the course.

From 3–5 PM… we're golfing!

We'll load up the carts, head onto Royal St. Cloud Golf Links & see how many holes we can play. Each mentor will have a small group of junior golfers & their parents, offering tips, encouragement & plenty of "YES! YOU DID IT!" moments.

Parents — YOU get to drive your junior golfer in the golf cart! How fun is that!

Our goal isn't a perfect score. We want your child to learn, build confidence, have fun & leave feeling better than when they arrived & excited to play again.

• An adult must stay with their junior golfer

Golf Is an Individual Sport… Until It Isn’t. 👀⛳

One of the coolest things about golf? Your kid can compete without having to do it alone.

We talk a lot about golf being an individual sport, and it is. Your child has to learn to manage their own swing, emotions, decisions and yes… those shots that make them want to throw the club into the nearest pond. 😂 But team golf adds something completely different.

During PGA Jr. League, our kids play together in a two-person scramble. They both hit, decide which ball gives them the best opportunity, move there and do it again. Sometimes your teammate hits the amazing drive. Sometimes they need YOUR shot. Sometimes you both hit something absolutely terrible and have to figure out what the heck you’re going to do next. 😂

And that’s where we see so much learning happen.

They have to talk to each other. They have to make decisions together. They learn that their teammate having a better shot doesn’t take anything away from them. They get excited when another kid does well, pick each other up when something goes wrong and slowly learn how to be both a competitor and a really good teammate.

That’s a pretty big skill for a kid to practice.

These little clips from our Florida Junior Golf kids playing PGA Jr. League at Royal St. Cloud Golf Links may just look like kids out playing golf, but there’s a whole lot happening between those shots. Friendships are growing, confidence is building and they’re figuring out how to work through this crazy game together.

And we LOVE getting a front-row seat to it. ❤️

Parents, we’re curious, is your child the teammate who gives the pep talk after a bad shot, the one cracking jokes to make everyone laugh, or the quiet one who just walks over and says, “You got this”? 😂👇

Do you remember the adult who believed in you when you were a kid? ❤️

Maybe it was a coach. A teacher. A neighbor. Someone who took a little extra time with you, listened to you, encouraged you or simply made you feel like you mattered.

You may not remember everything they said.

But you probably remember how they made you feel.

That’s what went through our minds when we saw these photos from Watson Links’ Mentor Month. 💚

These mentors gave these kids something that seems so simple, a few hours of their time, some conversation, a round of golf, some laughs and encouragement.

But we know it can become so much more than that.

Sunday, August 30th from 2–5 PM, we get to bring this same experience to our Florida Junior Golf kids at Royal Saint Cloud Golf Links ⛳

Some of our kids will probably be shy at first. Some will talk your ear off before you even get to the first hole. 😂 There will be good shots, awful shots, laughs, conversations and probably a few things talked about that have absolutely nothing to do with golf.

That’s the part we’re most excited about.

Sometimes being a mentor really is that simple.

You show up.
You spend time with a junior golfer.
You listen.
You let them know you believe in them.

You may never fully know what that meant to them. We can tell you that it meant everything to them.
