Hatfield Squat utilizes an advance technique that uses overloading principles (handling weights over 100%+ of your 1RM). Teaching the body to handle heavier weights and building confidence with heavier weights in the squat movement pattern.
By no means is this a movement you NEED to program into your training. But for advance lifters and athletes, if true 1RM strength/power is the goal then these programmed around your peaking block will help drive the stimulus to push your 1RM.
These can also be programmed in for those working around injuries, working on ROM in the squat, or to specifically develop more leg strength without the limiting factor of other muscle groups.
