Well, we made the trip to Placerville Speedway for points race number four. Car count was a little lighter this weekend with eight late models in attendance, but all eight teams came ready to put on a good show. We unloaded with some speed right away. In hot laps the car felt really good, and we ended up second quick overall, just .035 off the fastest lap.
Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side with the draw, as I pulled a high number and had to start seventh out of eight in the heat race. We were able to work our way up to fifth pretty quickly turning the fastest lap at 12.983, but the car kept bottoming out. At first I thought the track was just getting rough, but as the race went on we slipped back to finish eighth.
Before the feature, I debated making changes since we were starting dead last, but decided to see what the track would give us. When the green flag dropped, the car actually felt really good entering turn one, but we still weren’t fully up to speed yet. By the time we reached turn three, the car bottomed out hard and I knew something wasn’t right. The next time into turn one it bottomed out even worse, digging the chassis into the track so hard that it slammed my head into the seat and my shoulder into the containment seat as well, leaving me with a mild concussion. At that point I pulled off the track, and we were credited with an eighth-place finish.
After going through the car, we found the issue — the hose connecting the canister to the shock had failed, leaking out both the shock fluid and nitrogen. We sent the shock off to our builder Monday morning so we can get everything repaired and be ready for the next race.
I want to thank my wife Tianna and my father-in-law Jim for always being there every race night. My father-in-law is in his 70s and still never misses a race, always helping out and scraping mud off the car. This weekend he even requested a broom so he could reach more of the mud on the car, which I thought was pretty awesome.
Also, a huge thank you to all of our sponsors for their continued support:
