The Root is growing and we're looking for new leaders to grow with us.

We're now accepting applications for 3–5 new members of The Root's Board of Directors for Fall 2026!

As The Root continues to grow, we're looking for passionate, engaged leaders who want to help strengthen families across Greater Sacramento through community, health, and wellbeing.

We're especially interested in welcoming people with experience in:

✨ Nonprofit programming
✨ Finance or fundraising
✨ Marketing & communications
✨ Doulas, birth work, childcare, or family services
✨ Community partnerships and engagement

And we want our board to reflect the diversity of the families we serve. We welcome parents at every stage and people with a wide range of family experiences, including fathers, grandparents, parents of children with special needs, and LGBTQ+ parents.

Most importantly, we're looking for people who are committed to The Root's mission, self-motivated, collaborative, and ready to contribute time and leadership beyond board meetings.

Our weekly Strength Training class is designed to help you build strength that supports you not just during a workout, but in real life—from carrying your baby to keeping up with your growing family.

Led by Salinda Chan, licensed physical therapist and new mom, each class incorporates:

High-quality CPR can significantly increase a person's chances of survival—and knowing what to do when someone is choking or needs an AED can make all the difference.

Join Registered Nurses Kelly and Chelsea, your local Mama Coaches, for a hands-on CPR, Choking & AED Workshop at The Root.

This one-hour, no-pressure workshop is designed for parents, grandparents, caregivers, and anyone who wants the confidence and skills to respond in an emergency.

You'll learn how to:

❤️ Recognize when someone needs help
📞 Activate the emergency response system
❤️‍🩹 Perform high-quality CPR
⚡ Use an AED

Join us at The Root for a casual, hands-on Molecular Hydrogen Water Demo with Shannon Weiss, happening right after Prenatal Yoga!

As parents, we’re constantly thinking about the things our families drink, eat, cook with, and come into contact with. This demo is an opportunity to learn more about different types of water and how they can be used in everyday family life — from hydration and cooking to washing produce, cleaning, and skincare.

Shannon will demonstrate the different types of water produced by the system and give you the chance to see, taste, and experience them for yourself.
