Weekend race update: Chickin took the whole dad saying “drive the wheels off the thing” a little to serious, Sunshine is getting comfortable just when seasons is over, and Dad is looking for a fix so he can do some winter racing.

Friday night:
Chickin started outside front row in feature and was leading when the whole hub, wheel and tire flew off! Which took us out of the race and a chance at championship. Disappointment for sure but he took it well and said “let’s go get ‘em next year!”

Sunshine started towards the back in his feature…but was battling around 14th. He was getting comfortable running around cars and making passes. Missed his mark and almost hit the fence but saved it. Ended up 16th-17th at end of the night.

Dad started 12th and wheeled the thing all the way to 10th before it started overheating. I guess I needed that extra head start to the trailer for a refreshment…I think I’ve beat almost everyone to the trailer most of the nights this year! So that’s kinda like winning!

Saturday:
Mother Nature said…”nah, we good! No racing tonight”.

So we stayed at home and did other things…kinda boring! 😳

Race weekend update: Chickin wants to win and do burnout like he is in NASCAR, he learns about running different lines to make passes, Sunshine getting this racing thing figured out in the month of money for compact racing (it’s actually pretty fun when you run the top), and Dads crew figures out motor is actually broke…

Friday night:

Chickin started 3rd in the feature and took lead after Weston broke a chain while leading. Chickin lead the rest of the race for 1st win in new kart. Said he was thinking of doing a burnout but the clutch was already broke and was smoking.

Sunshine showed some speed in Vernal last weekend on a smaller track but when he came to the big track, he realized that running the top keeps his speed up and he can pass cars. He made the Amain by racing his way through the Bmain. He started 18th and got to 14th.

Dad got hot in heat, crew made some changes and in the feature he ran 8-10 laps with normal temps and something happened…car started missing and popping. Instantly causing motor to heat up and ending with DNF.

Saturday night:

Chickin started 5th in feature and the leaders took off. He just got stuck trying to run the bottom behind another car. The leaders came back around to lap him and showed him that he can pass around the out side. Once he got to 3rd and was lapped down, he kept pace with leaders but he learned that you can’t pass by following.

Sunshine raced through the Bmain again and started 21st in the Amain and he ran the top to finish 16th. Excitement is building with him in this sport….he having fun, making friends, talking setups with competitors, and learning how to miss wrecks. Welcome to never having money in your bank account again!

Next race is in 2 weeks in Rock Springs for championship weekend!

This weekend we will have Sunshine and Dad racing in Vernal. Sunshine racing for the big money for next 2 weekends. Good purse for sport compact class in vernal and rock springs. Dad asked if he should jump in the car to chase the money…Sunshine says he got this! So dad will be putting the super tune on to let him chase it!

Chickin is coming Friday for the crew chief duties but has to be back for his best friends birthday sleepover. We can’t miss those bff moments (even for someone who wakes up thinking about racing)!

Merica 250 and Skyboomers racing weekend edition: Learning things at full speed with Chickin, consistency is paying off for Sunshine and Dad is chasing motor gremlins…

Chickin had speed all weekend…starting with Friday night, he won the heat and started on the pole of the feature. Leading most of the race but when running through lap traffic, he got a little too impatient (like all of us racers do when leading) and tried to pass on outside of lap car. He left bottom open and got passed. He dove to get back under the kart that passed him…and hit an infield tire and spun. With only couple laps left and starting in 5th…just couldn’t do anything after that. Saturday he won the heat and started on pole again for feature. Outside kart got the jump and lead the whole race with Chickin finishing 2nd.

Sunshine has chose to start in back of every race he has entered this year. He feels like it makes it run his own race and he can miss wrecks when needed. And boy has he missed the wrecks this year. Friday he almost made the main out of the heat by finishing 4th (missing a lot of wrecks). But he had to run the bmain. He started in back and was trying to get into a qualifying spot but spun out. Oh well…Saturday he made consistent laps in both heat and feature. Car still in one peice and finished better than started!

Dad on that emotional rollercoaster ride of….we found the problem, nope, change this, we found the problem, nope, over and over for past couple weeks. We have changed everything on the motor we thought was broke. We have ran all the tests, changed every part multiple times, eliminated complete wiring systems, fuel systems, etc….we thought we had it after everything we changed, only to have the same issue come up. So we will call tomorrow and see if the person that rebuilt the motor has any suggestions that we haven’t tried. We have some of the smartest engine people we know completely stumped when it comes to this motor. Perfect time to just go ahead and be crew guy or juice box guy (look up Will Farrell calling his dad juice box guy on any of the media platforms)!

Weekend update: Learning the new kart and what we need to work on to make them fast, Motors can’t seem to hang with us and our heavy right foot, and finally making the progress with the compact…even with a missing item from the shop riding along!

Sunshine started in back of the heat on friday and just tried to get the feeling of racing again. It’s been about a month since last race and when he got in the car for Friday, he just couldn’t get comfortable. He must have grew since last time, because his suit seemed a little smaller than last time and it caused little panic. This is real thing because dad is same way…if you don’t feel comfortable, it makes for long night. But he kept car in one piece and finished 7th in bmain. Saturday was a lot better…different suit and getting comfy in car helped. Made the A feature since they started all 28 cars. He raced his own race, passed cars when he could and stayed competitive ending up with a plus 10 from 28th-18th! Get back to the shop and unloading car today, open the hood…to find the missing Roku remote that dad got blamed for losing it! Hey we can watch YouTube again!

Dad started weekend off with a different motor that sounded good and filter looked good in the shop…went out for heat race just seemed off. Couldn’t tell if it was setup or driver or motor…just wasn’t fast. Went out for feature and started 10th and dropped boat anchor and was running 16th when we lost oil pressure. So we are pretty sure the motor lost a bearing and needs to be rebuilt. It was a used motor but should have made it longer than that but with that happening, we are more than likely done for a while with racing for him…but Saturday he held down the napping chair that is kept in the trailer for those special track naps and made sure the pink frosted sugar cookies stayed at the right texture for consuming. They did and he saved a lot of people from eating too many of them.

Chickin got new ride and dad didn’t double check the gearing before racing Friday. He is hard of hearing and misunderstood what sprocket and clutch it had on there. So we were gear bound on Friday and ended up running in the back. But we did learn some stuff that other karts are doing to run up front. So with the help of PittStop Motorsports, we borrowed what we needed and Saturday was better. He ended up 3rd in feature after an incident with the leaders. Chickin was sure excited for McCoy to get his first Advanced class win. So excited he took the victory lap with him!

We will be off next weekend but be back the next race in Rock Springs…

Race weekend update: Dancing at the races, the big white tires in the infield don’t move, and sometimes going slow works in your favor.

Here we go…the Chickin was all excited to go racing with racing buddies this weekend! With him moving up to the Advance class this year means he gets to race in the intermission of the big cars (instead of before the races start). So he helped with flagging for the karts before he raced. He decided that there needed to be a little more entertainment while the other kids were racing and he was flagging. So instead of jumping around like he normally does when excited…he decided let’s do a little dancing to get the wiggles out. Thanks to Paul for capturing the dancing (and most of the photos used).

Now on to the racing updates: there was enough cars to have a bmain in both Sunshines and dads classes Friday night. Dad raced directly into the main from the heat races but Sunshine wasn’t as fortunate. He was getting more aggressive when his car started to spin and hit the infield tire…they don’t move and tore up the nose. We got it fixed in time to get him out for bmain. He just went out and made some laps without spinning and finished 8th in the bmain. Not good enough to make the big show but finished. After that race, Chickin’s races were up. He drew good and started up front in heat. Won that and started on the pole for the feature. Took the lead and led every lap to get first feature win! Dad started 10th in his feature, fell back to 14th after trying to get top lane to come in on a rough “Cowboy up” type track. But went back to the bottom and got back to 10th at the end of the race.

Saturday night, Sunshine was consistently getting better in the heat race and was learning when to gas/brake and getting comfortable with passing cars. Had to run the bmain again but getting closer. Dad finished 3rd in the heat and made the redraw for the amain. Sunshine ran the bmain but missed qualifying to the amain by a couple spots. Chickin started 3rd in heat race and feature…and that’s where he finished in both. The motor started letting go Friday night but tried to limp it along until we can figure what’s next. Dad’s feature was last one of the night….started 9th and was racing somewhere around 11th-15th. Everyone was ripping around the top and our car just wasn’t very good up there. So we played catfish and worked around the bottom trying to get it to come in. After some late cautions with some front runners getting caught up in wrecks, our patience paid off and the bottom came in….we were racing around mid pack with about 10 to go, and when checkered flag flew, we came across the line in 2nd. Just like we had it planned all along! Not really but that’s how I’m telling the story.

Race weekend Adventures update: Learning new things, the emotions of racing, and it’s sometimes it’s “fun as $&!+” when you are least expecting it!

Sunshine has officially found a hobby that will never allow him to have a savings account again. Racing is finally “pretty cool” after all of these years of helping dad at most of his races. He raced in the sport compact class for his first ever race. The weekend goals were to just try not to hit anyone or spin out….it was successful weekend even though that both happened. He did end up spinning out couple times and he did get into a car after spinning but nothing major and car still looks and runs good. Heck, even came out with a Top 10 in Saturdays feature! He improved and learned from uncle Jay about driving and handling of these cars. Showed good speed at end of Saturday compared to heat race on Friday.

Chickin doing Chickin things…Friday kart race was a good race between him and another similar two karts. All three kids were driving hard. Track was blowing out and was getting really dry in corners…so it made it hard to see as a driver and watching as a fan. It didn’t matter to the kids, they were just sending it into the corners like they been doing it forever. Karts were “power sliding” through the corner bumper to bumper and never lifting even those dust was in the face of these kids. He got 2nd in feature…as dad was walking over, he could hear him screaming. “Oh no! He going to be mad.” Dad thinks to himself. Get to kart and Chickin yelling “that was so much fun…power sliding the lip and running into the corner on the other karts bumper! Hey dad can I cuss?” Dad replies, “ok but do it quietly, I don’t want these people thinking I let you go around throwing around cuss words like an oilfield worker.” He respond…”that was fun as $&!+” in just above a whisper. I laughed and said “glad you enjoyed it!” Saturday those karts weren’t there so we just had a practice race with some random karts and got some practice for next race.

Dad had successful weekend with couple top 10’s. Ran 3rd in Friday night feature after starting up front on a latched up track (kinda just had to not make mistakes and could stay in front) and Saturday feature we fell back after trying to pass cars on high side when bottom was just a better groove. We felt like we could drive past the bottom lane of cars on entry but they just had so much better drive off and would drive right back by. Oh well, car is in one piece and we will see if we can get it little bit better for next time!

Must be getting close to that time of the year! 😳😳😳.

The passion for motorsports runs pretty deep in this family! Can’t wait to start the new season with the full cycle of racing careers…the first race, excitement of starting over after a season of unexpected part failures, and after a year off from racing for dad, lets try it one more time to see if we can add a couple wins!

Excited to have family, friends, marketing partners that are excited in the future of Sunshine and Chickin. Can’t say thanks enough for those that have steppped in and moved us into the future!

First time we have had all drivers in the shop working on race car things…kinda fun and exciting to have the next gen drivers getting ready.

Chickin working on slider techniques, Sunshine working on the hobby stock and dad is finishing up kart for one of Chickin racing buddies and he is getting the bmod ready for circle testing next weekend (hopefully complete lap circles and not spinning out like rookie circles).
