Last nightâs class at Lake Olathe delivered the kind of sunset Kansas is famous for đ
a wide-open prairie sky painted in layers of gold, amber, peach, and soft yellow, glowing against a slate-blue horizon. A few scattered clouds only made the scene more magnificent. As the sun slowly sank, the lake remained calm and peaceful, while the breeze gently carried us across the water like a floating island of laughter and nonsense.
We were having so much fun that class ran nearly an hour late. While I try to honor Asteyaâthe yoga principle of non-stealing, which reminds us to respect and not take what isnât ours, including another personâs timeâthe sunset had other plans for us. Free Play quickly turned into a challenge: âCan we build a line across the lake, and how long will it take?â
What followed was equal parts teamwork and comedy. Somewhere along the way, the game evolved into a paddleboard version of Red Rover. Someone was always falling in. Iâve watched children accomplish similar tasks much faster, but adults are infinitely more entertaining.
These are the moments that make SUP Yoga so special â¤ď¸ the unexpected adventures, the laughter, the connection, and the reminder to play.
Join us at Lake Olathe every Tuesday evening and Saturday morning all summer long.
