World Short Track Championship at The Dirt Track at Charlotte weekend recap. ✅

First ever trip to Charlotte, Thursday we qualified, first time hitting the racetrack.. Car was too in the track, couldn’t steer on throttle. Broke spring steel on the RF, RF shock body was trashed which didn’t help anything, I qualified terrible. Went to work on the car trying to free it up & get it out of the dirt. 602 LM division was selected for the invitational race Thursday night. We decided to start at the tail so I could feel out the track & didn’t want to risk tearing anything up. We were okay in the invitational race, way better but still too tight.

Friday we heat raced, I wound up finishing 4th just 1 spot out of the transfer. Track blew off a ton and we over adjusted. Extremely too free could hardly hang on to it.. we also broke the spring steel again & luckily didn’t cut the tire down. Finishing right outside the transfer put me starting front row of the last chance showdown #3 on Saturday.

Saturday we started off with the last chance showdown races. We couldn’t complete a lap for anything, felt pretty good with the car for the first time all weekend. 1 too many restarts, 3rd place jumped the start and it never got called back and he parked it on the hood getting into 1. Only top 2 transferred out of the last chance showdown. Frustrating to finally get the car close and handling and have that happen.

We got to work on the front end fixing & replacing stuff to make it back out for the 20 lap main. Bent the tie rod & knocked the toe out a few inches.. thankfully we got a provisional from Mid East. Started 25th in the main, made it up to 15th. Wished we could’ve stayed green, cautions didn’t work out in my favor. Car was a little too free but nothing broke & I finished 10 spots better than where I started. I was tickled to death & had a blast racing in the slick for my first time at Charlotte.

Highlight of my first trip to Charlotte was definitely being selected as the Sportsman of the Year for the 602 Late Models. Shows that character & attitude can go a long way 🤷🏼‍♂️ Got a ton of awesome stuff that I was not expecting. Huge thanks to everyone behind that, I greatly appreciate it.

I’d like to give a special shoutout to Matt for making this trip happen for me & everything he does. Along with Chuck Melton & Michael Tesh. Great group of people I’m surrounded by & I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

Huge thanks to my wife for putting up with me & always standing in my corner no matter what.

Also a huge thank you to our partners! I was hoping for a top 10 but unfortunately it just wasn’t in the cards. Thank you to all of you who support me in the race car & helping us out. It’s not easy & it unfortunately isn’t cheap as it once was. I am humbled & just extremely grateful to be doing this.

Update.. we get a provisional. So either way we’re starting the main but Matthew Nance is a non driving piece of 💩. Jumped the start and slammed the brake once he got by me into 1, restart never got called back.. got the Charlotte shaft. Bent the tie rod, hopefully we can get it fixed and give it another go in the main.

We originally was planning to run at Oak Level for their final points race of the season Saturday, after they cancelled we started thrashing getting stuff ready for Friendship. We decided to run the 525 so we had to pull my seat out the crate car and finish buttoning everything up.

Didn’t know where we wound up in Hotlaps because we forgot to put the transponder in.. no surprise there. 😂 I knew we were top 3 worthy. I qualified 2nd and finished 2nd in the main. I was trying to make a charge at the end but just wasn’t quite enough under me to make anything happen. We were a touch too free on exit but not a bad night for us. My 2nd full race in the Late Model and I feel we are slowly learning this thing along with myself driving it.

Was good seeing an old buddy of mine I haven’t seen in years Case Daniels. Was cool to race together again after not racing together since karts years ago.

Track was in great shape last night, best it’s been all year in my opinion. Hats off to the track prep crew.

We were planning on running the Late Model again this weekend but Mother Nature has other plans.. Gonna pace around tomorrow unsure of what to do 🤣

We will be back in the crate car next weekend at Ararat for their highly anticipated first event of the year!

Gonna sit back & enjoy some time with family this weekend, I hope y’all do the same!

Was able to get a full race under my belt in the Late Model Saturday without experiencing motor issues. It took me the majority of Hotlap/Qualifying and a few laps of the heat race to relearn how to drive this thing 🥴 We started 6th in the main & ended up finishing 5th. Few mistakes on my part but there’s always room for improvement. Didn’t tear anything up & got me a top 5 my first race in the Late Model!

Went to Bo’s Fun house Saturday & played race cars as Uncle T says for a set of Double features & man what a night. 🏁 Started 4th in the first one from the previous rainout race & battled for the lead with Gary Mabe for about 5 laps or so and was able to seal the deal in that one. Had a blast bangin doors with Gary lol We qualified 2nd for the 2nd race and was able to take the lead on lap 1 & lead them all. Track had some character last night between a hole getting into 1 that you couldn’t really see and the light trouble in turn 1 & 2, made for some tight bottoms lol

I think the fan appreciation festivities went well, we handed out light sticks, coloring pages of the racecar, candy, checkered flags & signed hero cards. I think the kids enjoyed it. A little girl offered me a Airhead and I told her I would take a green one & that I would race with it in my pocket & if I won I would share one with her. Unfortunately I completely forgot about it until I changed out of my suit. Unfortunately I didn’t get her name but I owe her.

Super blessed & thankful to get my 3rd & 4th win of the season. Having nights like last night is hard to come by. Huge thanks to Matt for everything he does and my Wife. We got this Rocket dialed in at Oak Level. If only we can get it running like that everywhere else we go! lol
