March & April at SOMA Jiu-Jitsu were all about Character Development: Self-Control (自制 / Jisei).
We challenged our students to practice self-control in their everyday lives—not just on the mats, but at home, at school, and with their families. The results were incredible.
We saw students:
• Choose to share—even when they didn’t have to. One student had ice cream and offered it to everyone without being asked.
• Make healthier choices by eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, and cutting back on sugary drinks.
• Show discipline by limiting electronics and screen time.
• Practice respect by letting mom and dad talk in the car without interrupting.
• Listen to their bodies—like one student who stopped eating a treat when he felt full.
• Put others first by giving siblings time on the trampoline without complaining.
• Take ownership of their mornings by waking up for school without being asked.
Because of their hard work and commitment, those who completed their character development earned a spot at our Kung Fu Panda Movie Night 🐼🎬 — and we had an amazing turnout!
We’re proud of the growth we’re seeing in these students. Self-control is a lifelong skill, and they’re building it one choice at a time.
