Come join a group ride with ! Wednesday 7/16 at Dry Pond in South Reno.

Meet up 5pm in the parking lot of Thomas Creek Trail head for a fun ride and to meet other beginner or intermediate lady riders!

I’ll give out some basic pointers and instruction to anyone interested and otherwise we’ll just have fun! Women+ and all MTB levels are welcome ❤️🤘🙌

…Wow Reno! 😍

The look you get from me when I realize or simply remember just how beautiful you are.
While we might not have high pine Tahoe trails, there are still some pretty epic gorgeous single track rides right in town.

And now (late spring/early summer) is the best time to ride 🤘

Thanks to all the local trail builders and groups bringing us glorious miles of trails. The new Belli Front connector (off the Ditch trail) is 🔥 right now.

Let’s talk about braking!

It’s fun topic among beginner riders as we are often told the wrong thing from our partners or friends. Surprise, surprise!

The real way to brake?

▶️ Use BOTH! Not just the back brake, you have way more stopping power and control when you use both brakes TOGETHER.

▶️ Use ONE finger, not two, not three! Brake levers are designed for our index finger in that indent corner and we need the rest of our hand on the grip for power.

▶️ MODULATE - It’s not all or nothing! Practice pulling halfway in on both brakes and you’ll start to understand the power and control you have over the speed of the bike

Last one ▶️ KEEP your brakes covered with your fingers WHILE you ride. It’s ready when you need it and practicing this will keep you safe in any quick changing scenarios.

Let’s talk pedals!

While it seems like a silly word (“pedals”) what you wear on your feet and where you place them can make all the difference.

✨This is why I recommend all beginners start with a quality FLAT pedal - not a clipless setup (AKA clip-ins) and a good grippy MTB shoe.✨

The reason is because your foot should host the most quality real estate on that pedal - with the ball of your foot over the center of a wide pedal. This will help give you more “weight in the feet” power since MTB riding depends on a grounded and balanced bike, which starts with YOU putting that weight in your feet!

✨The “Ready” Position✨

☄️What is it and why would you use it?

I like to say “Bend everything in your body over your bike and make sure you look up!”

The details? Standing up out of your saddle on level pedals, bend your elbows to 90 degrees, bend your knees (keep them wide) and the most helpful one..HINGE at your hips to bring your chest down toward the bars all while you keep looking up.

🌟Why is it helpful? This fundamental position on your bike is your best friend for tackling any technical terrain as it keeps you low and balanced and allows the bike to move beneath you. The ready position is also a precursor to cornering and gets you in the right position to be able to properly lean the bike in a high speed corner.

🏁Do you use it all the time? No, as our bodies should be dynamic on a bike, but learning this true fundamental position will help you gain more confidence as you grow and find your balancd in all the other positions you will experience.
