Refugio Track State Competitors
Field Events
9am Girls Long Jump
Jazmyn Howard and Aubrey Brown both competing. Howard has a season best 19’ 3 3/4” jump in the Regional meet. Brown has a season best 17’ 8” jump also in the Regional meet. The 2A mark was set by Susan Bean of Miami in 1981 with a jump of 18’ 11 1/4”. Could we see two medal winners and a new 2A record? Absolutely YES!
11am Boys Discus
Kolton Taylor comes into this event with the farthest throw among the competitors this year! His regional mark of 182’ 10” has him poised to win the Gold this year. 2A record holder is Zach Courtney of Post in 2022 with a throw of 186’ 6”. Could we see that mark broken? Absolutely YES!
1pm Girls Triple Jump
Jazmyn Howard will be competing with a season best 37’ 3 1/4” which she jumped at the Area meet. The 2A record holder is Shametra Boykins of Karnak set the record in 2001 with a leap of 40’ 10 1/2”. Could Jazmyn win the event and bring home gold? Absolutely YES!
2pm Boys Shot Put
Kolton Taylor comes into this event with a season best throw of 52’ 4” throw in the District Meet. The 2A record holder is Marvin Lewis of Burton set in 1982 with a throw of 65’. Could Kolton bring home gold? Absolutely YES!
5pm Girls 4x100m Relay
Refugio comes into this event with the fastest time in the great State of Texas of 46.87 which shattered a region record and school record in Kingsville. The girls will have good competition though coming into this race. Refugio will be running out of lane 7. The 2A record holder is Panhandle set last year with a time of 47.32. Can the Lady Cats break another record or two and bring home the gold? Absolutely YES!!
6:05pm Girls 100m Dash
Two great competitors will be featured in this race. Carlie McClain and Jazmyn Howard, both of whom have broken each others school record this year will be running for the gold and silver! McClain set the best time in this event last week in Kingsville with an 11.73, but Howard is right there as well with an 11.80. McClain will be running in lane 6 and Howard in lane 8 The 2A record was set by Kortnei Johnson of Italy in 2024 with a time of 11.51. Can the girls pick up the Gold and Silver and possible set more records? Absolutely YES!
6:40pm Girls 4x200m Relay
Refugio comes into the state meet with the fastest time of 1:42.98.
The Lady Cats will be running in lane 5. The 2A record is 1:41.28 set by the Lady Cats last year. Can the girls break the record and bring home the Gold? Absolutely YES!
7pm Boys 400m Dash
Mikel Brown comes into this race with a season best of 49.51 which was in the prelims of the regional meet. All of the competitors in this race are very close with the leader having just .39 second advantage over Brown’s best. Mikel will be running in Lane 9. 2A record holder Albert Booker of Trent set the mark in 2001 with a time of 47.49. Can Mikel bring home the gold and set a record? Absolutely YES!
7:55pm Boys 200m Dash
Mikel Brown has ran a season best 21.94 at the Area meet. He will be running in Lane #5. The 2A Record for the 200m dash was set in 1985 by Stanley Kerr of Snook with a time of 20.64. Can Mikel being home gold and set a new record? Absolutely YES!
Can Jazmyn Howard pick up five more medals giving her a total of 14 at the state meet in her career? Absolutely YES!
Can the Lady Cats bring home another State Championship, their 10th? Well, you know that answer already!
