Refugio Junior All-Stars Explode for 15 Runs in Third, Roll Past Rockport-Fulton 19-2

ROCKPORT — The Refugio Junior All-Stars broke open a close game with a massive 15-run third inning and cruised to a 19-2 victory over the Rockport-Fulton Junior All-Stars on a rainy Saturday night in Rockport.

After trailing 2-0 early, Refugio responded with three runs in the second inning before unleashing an offensive barrage in the third that put the game out of reach.

The big inning featured contributions throughout the lineup. Victor Valdez and Quincy Bolden each drew bases-loaded walks, while Bon Mesiroff, Jaylen Lewis, Salvano Gutierrez, and Jace Garza also worked RBI walks. Brixton Havens delivered a two-run single, Deegan Waer added a two-run single, and Randon Escamilla ripped an RBI double. Refugio also took advantage of several Rockport-Fulton miscues during the inning.

Rockport-Fulton struck first in the top of the opening frame when Michael “BB” Solis lined an RBI single down the right-field line. Another run scored on a Refugio error to give the Pirates an early 2-0 lead.

Refugio answered in the second inning. Mesiroff drove in a run with a single up the middle, Lewis drew a walk that eventually led to a run, and another Rockport-Fulton error allowed the Bobcats to take a 3-2 advantage.

On the mound, Ray’Zail Jones earned the win for Refugio. Jones worked three innings, allowing two hits and two runs—both unearned—while striking out five and walking four.

Waer came on in relief and tossed a scoreless inning, allowing just one hit while striking out one.

Refugio’s offense collected 10 hits on the day. Waer, Escamilla, and Havens each recorded two hits to lead the attack. Garza drove in two runs, while Valdez reached base repeatedly and drew three walks.

The Junior All-Stars showed patience at the plate throughout the game, drawing 12 walks and constantly putting pressure on the Pirates’ defense. Refugio was equally aggressive on the bases, swiping nine stolen bases. Mesiroff and Valdez each recorded multiple steals.

Solis paced Rockport-Fulton offensively, going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

With the victory, Refugio advances after another dominant performance fueled by timely hitting, patience at the plate, and aggressive baserunning.

Waer’s Three-Hit Night Powers Refugio Junior All-Stars Past Orange Grove, 16-4

ROCKPORT - The Refugio Juniors used timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and a dominant late-game surge to defeat Orange Grove 16-4 on Friday in Rockport.

Deegan Waer led the offensive attack, collecting three hits in four at-bats. Waer singled in the first inning, doubled down the right-field line in the third, and added another single in the fifth to help pace the Bobcats’ 10-hit performance.

Refugio struck first in the opening inning when an Orange Grove error allowed a run to score, and Randon Escamilla added another by stealing home to give the Bobcats a 2-0 advantage.

Orange Grove answered in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on a pair of errors and a run-scoring groundout from Corbyn Parker to take a 3-2 lead.

Refugio reclaimed control in the third inning. Waer’s RBI double and a two-run single by Salvano Gutierrez highlighted a four-run frame that put Refugio back on top.

Holding a slim lead entering the fifth, Refugio broke the game open with six runs in the inning. Evhan Diaz drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Gutierrez drew a run-scoring walk, Ray’Zail Jones delivered a two-run double, and the Bobcats continued to pressure the defense with their speed on the bases.

Gutierrez finished with multiple RBIs, while Jones provided a key extra-base hit during the decisive rally.

On the mound, Jace Garza earned the win after allowing just two hits and three runs—none earned—over 3⅔ innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked two. Brixton Havens was outstanding in relief, tossing 1⅓ scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out one.

Refugio’s patience at the plate also played a major role in the victory. Refugio drew 13 walks, with Jaylen Lewis leading the way by reaching via walk three times.

With the victory, the Refugio Bobcats Juniors combined strong pitching, disciplined at-bats, and aggressive baserunning to pull away from Orange Grove and secure the 16-4 win.

Refugio All Stars Rally Past Beeville for 8-6 Victory

SINTON - The Refugio All Stars showed plenty of resilience Friday night, overcoming an early five-run deficit to defeat Beeville 8-6 in tournament action.

Beeville came out swinging, taking advantage of several opportunities in the top of the first inning to build a 5-0 lead.

Refugio responded in a big way in the bottom of the second. Trailing by four, the All Stars erupted for six runs on three hits to seize a 7-5 advantage. The key hit of the inning came off the bat of Easton Moya, whose two-run single helped spark the comeback and put Refugio in front for good.

After the rocky start, Refugio’s pitching staff settled in and kept Beeville’s offense in check. Lucas Arredondo delivered a strong performance in relief, earning the victory after allowing just one run on three hits over five innings. Arredondo struck out five batters and worked around four walks to keep the All Stars in control.

Easton Moya got the start on the mound, surrendering five runs—only one earned—while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning. Lane Guerra closed the door late, collecting the save to secure the win.

At the plate, Guerra led Refugio’s offense with a 2-for-3 performance, recording a team-high two hits.
