Refugio Seniors Drop Close Game to G-P Red, 29-22

REFUGIO — The Refugio Bobcats senior football team came up just short Saturday, falling to Gregory-Portland Red, 29-22, in a competitive matchup at Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium.

Refugio was led by a standout performance from Tayren Lewis, who rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Lewis also added a takeaway score, contributing on both sides of the ball as the Bobcats battled throughout the contest.

Lewis Leads Refugio’s Effort

Lewis averaged more than 16 yards per carry and found the end zone twice on the ground. His takeaway score added another highlight to an impressive all-around performance.

Joseph Lesak added 17 rushing yards on five carries and completed one of five passes for five yards. Josiah Casares recorded Refugio’s lone reception, gaining five yards.

Donovan Brown had one carry for minus-five yards, while the team recorded an additional rushing attempt for minus-10 yards.

G-P Red Gets Balanced Offensive Production

Gregory-Portland Red featured a productive rushing attack, led by Levi Lara and Kendrick Hernandez.

Lara rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries while completing four of nine passes for 37 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Hernandez added 96 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Michael Guien contributed 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns on six carries. He also led Gregory-Portland Red in receiving with four catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Zeph Flores added 25 rushing yards on four carries, while Cason Scott recorded two carries for no gain.

Gregory-Portland Red’s offensive production proved enough to secure the 29-22 victory, despite Lewis’ big day on the ground and his contribution on defense for Refugio.

Gregory-Portland Red Defeats Refugio Juniors, 33-0

REFUGIO — Gregory-Portland Red defeated the Refugio Bobcats junior football team, 33-0, Saturday at Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium.

Gregory-Portland Red used a productive rushing attack to account for all 33 points, while Refugio worked to establish its offense throughout the contest.

Travis Mitchell led Gregory-Portland Red with 61 rushing yards and three touchdowns on five carries. Blake Woodard added 41 yards and a touchdown on two carries, while Andrew Sellars rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown on two attempts.

Xander Salinas contributed 27 rushing yards on four carries. Odin Burbage added four yards on two attempts, and Dean Acosta finished with two yards on one carry.

For Refugio, Knowshon Williams led the rushing attack with 60 yards on 13 carries. Williams also completed one of three passes for 10 yards.

Matteo Firova recorded six rushing yards on three carries and led the Bobcats in receiving with one catch for 10 yards. Acesyn Trevino finished with two rushing yards on six carries, while Malulani Mitchell had one carry for minus-three yards.

Sellars was 0-for-1 passing for Gregory-Portland Red.

Gregory-Portland Red finished the game with a 33-0 victory, while Refugio was held scoreless.

Gregory-Portland Hands Refugio Sophomores First Loss, 13-6

REFUGIO — In a matchup between two undefeated teams, the Refugio Bobcats sophomore football team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Gregory-Portland, 13-6, at Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium.

Both teams entered the contest unbeaten, setting the stage for a competitive showdown. Gregory-Portland ultimately came away with the victory, despite a strong performance from Refugio’s rushing attack.

Gregory-Portland struck first in the second quarter when Haydn Garcia scored on a nine-yard run with 2:35 remaining, giving the visitors a 6-0 advantage.

The Bobcats answered just 19 seconds later. Lincoln Jones broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 6-6 with 2:16 left in the first half.

Gregory-Portland regained the lead in the third quarter when Garcia connected with Jayden Flores on a five-yard touchdown pass with 4:15 remaining. Devon Moore added the one-point conversion to give Gregory-Portland a 13-6 advantage.

The score held the rest of the way as Gregory-Portland handed Refugio its first loss of the season.

Jones Leads Refugio’s Ground Attack

Jones paced the Bobcats with an outstanding performance, rushing for 117 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

Makonan Brown added 16 rushing yards on three carries and led Refugio in receiving with two catches for 17 yards. Roby Deal rushed for 14 yards on six attempts and completed two of six passes for 17 yards. Jaedence King finished with minus-six yards on two carries.

Garcia Leads Gregory-Portland

Garcia powered the Gregory-Portland offense with 75 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He also completed two of nine passes for 33 yards and a touchdown.

Moore contributed 49 rushing yards on nine carries and caught one pass for 28 yards. Flores hauled in the five-yard touchdown reception, accounting for Gregory-Portland’s second touchdown.

Despite the loss, Refugio showed its ability to generate explosive plays, highlighted by Jones’ 52-yard touchdown run. The Bobcats will look to bounce back after a hard-fought contest between two previously undefeated teams.

Final Score: Gregory-Portland 13, Refugio 6
