40 years of diving, adventure, and community!
Last night, we had the pleasure of celebrating The Scuba Shop in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on their 40th Anniversary as a PADI Member.
PADI Territory Director Lucy Dunbar and PADI Regional Manager Guillaume Fargues were honored to present Mike and Cory Atkins and their team with a special recognition award celebrating four decades of introducing divers to the underwater world and inspiring ocean adventure.

When John Cronin and Ralph Erickson founded PADI in 1966 and operated it out of Cronin's basement, booking a scuba course (and travel) looked nothing like it does today.

In the early years, the path to becoming a diver was rooted in local community networks, handwritten forms and printed manuals.

Even then, one element connected becoming a diver in every era: the moment of discovery, that first spark of curiosity about what lies beneath the surface.
