Update on Luey's bred mares
3 APHA
9 AQHA
3 grade

12 confirmed bred
3 bred and waiting to be checked

If I had to guess right now based on our last ultrasound check the 3 waiting will be cycling one more time. Since they are all older mares, we will let them try once more. Typically if you skip a year on an older mare they don't conceive again, and unfortunately all 3 have several uterine cysts that could be preventing the babies from being able to survive.

Koko Mocho Quixote is bred! We checked her last week and found a 5 mm vesicle, but didn't want to get too excited. But she is confirmed with a 21 day baby! Which means Luey has some good swimmers, we bred her on the 9th and based on the embryo size she conceived on the 13th. 4 days after breeding she took!!

Breeding this year has been challenging, we had mares retaining fluid, persistent corpus luteums, confirmed bred then lost and rebred. Very few have been textbook straight forward. Hopefully the tail end of breeding will go better. Luey has bred 15 mares this year
3 APHA
9 AQHA
3 grade

8 confirmed bred
3 in heat
4 bred and waiting to be checked

Fingers crossed we are done after this heat cycle :)

Well our hard to breed mare was finally ready to be bred, so some help of hobbles and a bit of sedation we got her covered twice and no body got hurt!
For some reason, the first two years she was bred, she was good, easy. Then she had a baby, never let the stud near her or the baby. Next year she would kick the s*** out of him, so we tried minor sedation and hand breeding. Bred her one day 2 times and got lucky. This year she is the same, mean to the studs, so we are crossing our fingers and hoping we only have to do this once. I am so thankful the Luey is easy to handle and works with me. Next year I will be better prepared and have her A I'd. Be a good excuse to find a real fancy stud :).
