The husband and I both had a really busy work day today, but we managed to sneak away this morning for a little bit of šŸ¤—. We’ve really been trying to exercise some restraint these last few trips as we honestly don’t need much for the house and more than anything I’m trying to keep it as minimal as possible. But of course there were a few little bargains we simply couldn’t leave behind.
I’m also realizing that whenever we’re in Italy, I find myself gravitating toward mid-century pieces. I think it’s because the architecture here is already so rich with character and texture that I don’t want the furnishings competing with it. Instead, I crave the contrast - the clean, simple lines provide a balance for me juxtaposed to the ancient details.
I thought I’d share a few pics of some of pieces that caught my eye as we were out and about. A couple of them came home with us, while the others were sadly left behind for someone else to discover. One of my favorite finds (for just 10 euros!), was the sweet little green lamp, which has already found its spot beside our chair in the lantern room. šŸ’š
And then it was back to reality! I made it home just in time to hop on a Zoom call with clients back in CT to walk through initial concepts for their main living spaces. The real win? The internet held stready for the entire call!
Guesses as to what I brought home?

Sunday stills.

I woke this morning in my daughter’s room to the sound of church bells ringing through the village and, after my first full night’s sleep since arriving at Casa Rosa nearly a week ago, it felt like absolute heaven šŸ¤.

My sister headed home yesterday, but we able to pack so much into her visit. We hiked between villages in Cinque Terre, climbed Monte Matanna alongside goats and horses, swam in the sea at Forte dei Marmi, and wandered the beautiful streets of Lucca. In between there was plenty of eating (sempre!), lots of giggling, and a collective effort to stay out of my husband’s way as he has, unfortunately, been working full U.S. hours.

Now my father-in-law is here for a few days, which likely means a slightly gentler itinerary and a significantly lower step count šŸ™‚.

Yesterday, the husband and I traded places. He played tour guide while I stayed home to catch up on work. The reward came later in the afternoon when we were handed the keys to explore the tiny church in our village—a special treat since its doors have sadly closed like so many other village churches.

As for today, we have no real plans. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and that feels like enough. We’ll see where the day takes us.
Wishing everyone a happy Sunday, and I hope everything is okay after the bad storms we heard about in the northeast! šŸ™

Oh May, where did you go?

You’d think I’d be better prepared by now! This time of year is always a whirlwind. Every spring seems to bring the same mad dash to wrap up projects for clients eager to settle into their weekend homes for the summer.

And then there’s the garden... which has officially taken on a life of its own. To be clear, I’m not pretending to be a gardener. That’s usually the husband’s department at our house, but between his own crazy work schedule he’s barely made it up to CT this month, so nature has decided to do its own thing. 🫤

Throw in a quick trip to the city for meetings, an unexpected vet visit for Moe (who somehow managed to rip out yet another nail and is now on leash walks for the next three weeks 🤯), a birthday celebration, and finally the seasonal closet swap so I could pack in time to catch pur flight, and it’s been a very full month.

So while I’ll be sad to say goodbye to May, I’m more than ready to welcome June.

Wishing everyone a Happy Sunday. I hope you find some moments to exhale. šŸ’›

A few more pieces arrived today for my Hudson Valley commercial project, and opening these packages felt like a little reminder of why I love what I do (most of the time). Today’s deliveries came from two shops - beautiful pillow covers to add to our mix at my Hudson Valley commercial project, and the cute linen cafe curtains from a wonderful maker in Poland. I love having access to so many little shops all over the world. Honestly, what did we do before Etsy?!
Today, I spent the morning putting together a furnishings quote for one client, before heading out to one of my Airbnb projects in Ghent, NY to pull together a screened porch in time for Memorial weekend guests. Finally, back home to finish room layouts for a client presentation tomorrow, and really hoping to make it to the opening of a new home store in our area tonight! It’s been a crazy few weeks leading into the summer season, but today I’m channeling and hoping that his humor and positivity will carry me through!šŸ™ Happy almost long week end guys!

Monday morning with Mother’s Day flowers still holding on.šŸ’œ I don’t know if we could have asked for a more gorgeous weekend?! And even though I had to spend most of it working, and sadly didn’t manage to make it to , I was able to squeeze in a bit of time on the courts. This time of year leading up to the long weekend and the start of summer is always manic, but one day at a time. We can only do what we can do, right?! We’re in for a hot one here in the northeast this week so one thing I definitely have to try fit in is the dreaded seasonal clothes switch. Who’s done theirs?

Happy Nurture Day, because truly it’s a celebration of every woman who gives a little of themselves to care for another. So grateful to have my son here this weekend, and I just received a call from my daughter who arrived in Ireland this morning to complete the last week of her Masters Degree. The husband sadly has to catch the train into the city for work today, but we were able to enjoy a lovely breakfast and the rest of the day will be puttering, a dog walk and a bit of tennis. Wishing all of you a beautiful day. ā¤ļø

Morning light before the rains come… šŸ¤ I’m just hoping they hold off long enough for our lawn guy. Today will be the first mow of the season and thank goodness. It’s looking like a bloody field out there! I know it’s supposed to be no mow May, but honestly, how do people do it?
Happy hump day everyone!

Happy Sunny Sunday!ā˜€ļø
Really, there’s nothing better! Even if it’s still a bit nippy out there. Today is a work day for me with a client meeting this morning and then a trip out to my Hudson Valley project to deliver a bunch of items and meet with the carpenter who will be building some shelving. But, not complaining since I had a play day yesterday roaming around . And who knows. I might even get back in time to squeeze in some tennis. Wishing all of you a lovely day, however you plan to spend it. šŸ’›

Good morning lovelies. Happy May!šŸ’œ
It’s been one of those weeks where I feel I’ve been pulled every which way, but we’ve made it to Friday! The husband has finally returned, from galavanting around Rome (without me 😠), so you better believe I’ll be putting him to work this weekend. Especially as he’ll then be gone from here for another two weeks. Today, I’ll be headed up to my Norfolk project for the better part of the day, but tennis outside is in the calendar for late afternoon, so yay! Happy almost weekend everyone. šŸ¤—

This room feels like a reflection of so many of us - masters of the multitask!
When my clients asked for help designing several spaces in their home, they knew this one would be the biggest challenge. With three kids under six, it needed to work hard as both a play room and a TV room. But because it sits right in view as you enter the home, it also had to feel intentional - layered, elevated, and true to their love of rich, saturated color. And when the kids are finally asleep? They wanted the space to shift into a grown up lounge - one that hints at future evenings filled with dinner parties and a glowing fireplace in the background.
So here’s how we made it happen:
- A built-in storage bench that doubles as toy storage, a reading book, and a visual anchor for the TV
- A double sided daybed for flexible, face-anywhere seating
- Directional wall lighting for function and ambiance
- Deep, inviting hues that create cohesion with the surroundng spaces
The best part? It’s now everyone’s favorite room in the house - no matter their age!šŸ’™
