They say you can’t keep the wind in your yard, but when you have a horse at home, you’ve come pretty close. Here’s to the girls who never stopped wishing on every shooting star for a horse of their own—and to the lucky ones who finally get to look out their window and see that dream grazing in the sun.

🌅 Horse Spotlight: Potato, Sassy Star of the Commercial
Todays’s feature is none other than Potato, our resident Haflinger icon, who apparently decided to film his own energy drink advertisement at the horse show.
Picture this: the sun is out behind him like he’s on a movie set, his golden mane is glowing, and he’s standing there… casually sipping an energy drink like a tiny athlete preparing for the Super Bowl.
Potato’s whole vibe in this photo is:
- “I’m the main character.”
- “This beverage will unlock my true power.”
- “Don’t talk to me until I’ve had my pre‑round caffeine.”
He looks like he’s about to say:
“Do YOU want more sass, more sparkle, and more speed‑walk to the in‑gate? Try Pony Power™ — the official drink of short kings everywhere.”
Honestly, he’s not wrong.
He is the star of our lives.
And now, apparently, the star of his own marketing campaign.

😴 Horse Spotlight: Joey, Ambient Barn Soundtrack Artist
Today’s star is Joey, who decided that while I was teaching a lesson, the perfect use of his time was to take a full‑body dirt nap in the field behind the outdoor arena.
I glance up mid‑instruction… and there he is.
Flat out.
Nose buried in the ground.
Looking like he’s been unplugged.
So of course I pull out my phone to get a video — and that’s when I realize I can hear him snoring from the arena. Actual, audible, rhythmic snoring. Every exhale sending up tiny puffs of dust like he’s powering a miniature steam engine.
Meanwhile I’m trying to teach like:
“Leg on… half‑halt… ignore the horse over there doing his best impression of a tranquilized potato.”
Joey, blissfully unaware, continues his spa‑grade exfoliation session.
Honestly, he’s living his best life.
I’m just lucky enough to catch it on camera.

🌿 Horse Spotlight: Ryder, Professional Willow Ninja
This morning’s entertainment was brought to you by Ryder, who has apparently decided to take up a new career as a Where’s Waldo? character.
Picture this: I’m standing there, sipping my coffee, minding my own business… and suddenly I notice a pair of giant draft‑cross eyeballs peeking through the willow branches behind the pony paddock. Just… staring. Waiting. Plotting breakfast.
Ryder’s pasture is right behind the willows, and he has mastered the art of:
- Hiding his entire 1,400‑pound body behind a single twig
- Pretending he’s invisible
- Slowly inching forward like a cartoon character until someone notices him
He looked like a woodland creature who got lost on his way to a children’s book illustration. A very large, very hungry woodland creature.
And the moment I made eye contact?
Instant perked ears.
Instant “Good morning, I’m starving.”
Instant “Please ignore the fact that I am a full-grown horse pretending to be a shrub.”
Ryder: blending in with nature since sunrise.
Me: just trying to drink my coffee in peace

🌮 Horse Spotlight: Taco, Lord of the Mud Realm
Today’s feature is brought to you by 4 inches of dripping sludge, one very offended grey horse, and me… in winter breeches… holding a hose like I’m about to pressure‑wash a tractor.
Taco has officially declared that spring has sprung, which apparently means:
- Find the wettest spot in the pasture
- Roll with the enthusiasm of a toddler in a puddle
- Achieve a level of filth previously thought impossible by science
By the time I found him, he looked like a chocolate‑dipped marshmallow with legs. A full‑body mud suit. A DIY spa treatment. A “before” photo for a grooming product ad.
Meanwhile, I’m standing there in my insulated breeches, hose in hand, questioning every life choice that led me to this moment.
Taco’s review of the experience:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Excellent mud. Would roll again.”
My review:
💧💧💧 “Why is it dripping.”
But don’t worry—underneath the grime, he’s still our handsome grey king… probably.
