Pueblo Centennial Defeats Cheyenne Mountain On Back Of Clutch Display From Kaylee Romero

Kaylee Romero drove in five runs on one hit to lead Pueblo Centennial past Cheyenne Mountain 14-9 on Thursday. In the sixth inning, Romero hit an inside the park grand slam.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Pueblo Centennial collected seven hits and Cheyenne Mountain 11 in the high-scoring affair.
A double by Corinne Harlow put Cheyenne Mountain on the board in the top of the first.
Pueblo Centennial took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Pueblo Centennial scored on a wild pitch, Olivia Aragon grounded out, and Remi Baca walked, each scoring one run.
Cheyenne Mountain captured the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second after Landri Winter singled down the left field line, Brynn Gutschick grounded out, and Katelyn Scism tripled to left field, each scoring one run.
Cheyenne Mountain added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Maci Houger singled down the left field line, and Pueblo Centennial committed an error, each scoring one run.
Pueblo Centennial scored on a wild pitch, which helped Pueblo Centennial tie the game at six in the bottom of the fourth.
Cheyenne Mountain captured the lead, 9-6, in the top of the fifth after Pueblo Centennial committed an error, Addison Tamargo doubled down the left field line, and Gutschick singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run.
Pueblo Centennial flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 14-9. The biggest blow in the inning was an inside the park grand slam by Romero that drove in four.
Aubrey Gonzales pitched five innings in relief for Pueblo Centennial. The reliever gave up three hits and three runs (zero earned) while, striking out three and walking none. Aragon began the game for Pueblo Centennial. The starter allowed eight hits and six runs (four earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Dilynn Greeno began the game for Cheyenne Mountain. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and 12 runs (11 earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking 16.
Celly Portillo led Pueblo Centennial with two hits in three at bats. Pueblo Centennial had patience at the plate, collecting 16 walks for the game. Payton Garduno and Baca led the team with three free passes each.
Cheyenne Mountain tallied 11 hits in the game. Harlow, Winter, Tamargo, and Houger each collected two hits for Cheyenne Mountain. Harlow, Winter, Tamargo, Gutschick, Houger, and Scism each drove in one run for Cheyenne Mountain.
Next up for Pueblo Centennial is a game against Pueblo East on Thursday.
