🏀 South High Girls Basketball Open Gym Tonight!

Calling all girls who are currently attending South High or planning to attend South in the future!

Join us tonight for Open Gym from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. We’ll be getting shots up, working on our skills, and competing together as we continue building our program.

𝐖𝐄 𝐆𝐎𝐓 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐆𝐔𝐘.

We are extremely excited to announce the hiring of our new head coach, Mr. Major Willette.

Originally from Ogden, Utah, and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Coach Willette played collegiate basketball at Phoenix College before finishing his playing career and earning his degree at CSU-Pueblo.

Over the past five years, Coach Willette has coached with the Steel City Stars girls travel basketball program, led numerous youth recreation league teams, and founded UPTOP Training, where he has helped athletes of all ages develop their skills, confidence, and work ethic.

Coach Willette is committed to building a program founded on accountability, discipline, toughness, and family while helping our student-athletes grow as leaders both on and off the court.

We are excited to welcome Coach Willette to the South High family and can’t wait for the future of South Girls Basketball!

𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋.

The C**ts opened the 2025-2026 SCL season with a win over the Pueblo Central Wildcats. The win marked the end of a nearly 3 year league skid, with the last SCL win coming in February of 2023.

The girls started hot and battled until the final buzzer, lead by Kendall Decker who had 13 points. Rainie Romero-Stapleton added 9 points, and Shay Timme (6), Meraya Brown (2), Sawyer Espinoza (2) and Kendra Decker (1) rounded out the scoring for South. Enyce Tinnin and Zalei Ferris defensively added a ton of great minutes as the C**ts took a 5-0 lead from the tip and dominated down the stretch.

The girls look to continue their momentum when they take on East on Thursday at home.

We will be holding a mandatory parent meeting on November 3rd at 6;00pm for any all girls interested in playing basketball and their parent or guardian. The meeting will be in the cafeteria and attendance is required.

Open gym will follow directly after at 6:30. We look forward to seeing you.
