๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽ‰ SECRET SAGA DOES IT AGAIN! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ†

Congratulations to Secret Saga on his incredible stakes victory at the 2026 Eastern Oregon Livestock Show!

This big, flashy, chrome-covered chestnut is a 6-year-old Oregon-bred gelding by Raised a Secret and out of Forty Something, by Slews Sagaโ€”and if I'm being honest, he has a special place in my heart.

I've had the privilege of watching this boy grow up, cheering him on in every race, and sneaking him his favorite peppermints just because it was a Tuesday and he happened to be in the front pasture. ๐Ÿฌโค๏ธ The sound of a crinkling peppermint wrapper can bring him running from anywhere in the field, ears up and eyes bright, hoping for a treat and a little attention.

That's what makes days like this so special. Watching a horse you've known and loved from the beginning charge across the finish line and into the winner's circle is pure joy.

Congratulations to the Root family, and all of the connections behind this very special horse. Thank you for letting us all be a part of his journey and for continuing to showcase the heart and talent of Oregon-breds.

Way to go, Secret Saga! We're all cheering for you, and I have a feeling there are plenty more peppermintsโ€”and victoriesโ€”in your future! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ†โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŒน 1994 Oregon Oaks Winner: Windy Queen ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ‡

We're taking a look back at a special day in Oregon racing history as Windy Queen captures the 1994 Oregon Oaks at Portland Meadows on March 5, 1994.

An Oregon-bred mare, Windy Queen was sired by Sharper One and out of Savanna's Lark (by Flying Lark). She was bred and owned by Don Jackson, making this Oaks victory an especially rewarding achievement for an owner-breeder.

The Oregon Oaks has long been a showcase for talented fillies bred and raced in the Pacific Northwest, and Windy Queen earned her place in that history with this memorable stakes victory.

Photos like this remind us of the horses, breeders, owners, and racing fans who helped shape Oregon's Thoroughbred industry. Congratulations to Don Jackson and all those connected to Windy Queen on this outstanding accomplishment!

๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŒฒ Oregon-Bred Spotlight: Tyonek ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ‡

This throwback winner's circle photo captures Tyonek after winning the Breeding to Race Purse at Portland Meadows on March 5, 1994.

An Oregon-bred gelding, Tyonek was sired by Sea Aglo and out of Compagnie (by Canadian Gil). He was bred by Robert N. Cameron and campaigned by owner Mary Ellen Cameron, with conditioning from trainer Rolland Fergason.

The Breeding to Race Purse program was designed to reward and promote Oregon breeding, making victories like this especially meaningful for the breeders and owners who invested in the state's racing industry. Tyonek's success serves as a reminder of the quality horses produced by Oregon breeders and the strong foundation they helped build for Thoroughbred racing in the Pacific Northwest.

๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ“ธ Oregon Racing Throwback ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ‡

We're taking a trip back to December 10, 1994, with this winner's circle photo of Shy Boots at Portland Meadows!

An Oregon-bred gelding, Shy Boots was sired by Boutinierre and out of Shyanne Spirit (by Crafty Native). He was proudly bred by Leitha Caron, whose dedication helped produce another memorable Oregon-bred runner.

This photograph captures a special moment in Oregon racing history, celebrating a hard-earned victory and the people behind the horse. Photos like these help preserve the stories of the horses, breeders, owners, and horsemen who made Portland Meadows such an important part of our state's racing heritage.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ A Rainy Day Winner at Portland Meadows! ๐Ÿ‡๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Throwing it back to December 10, 1994, when Oregon-bred gelding Elgrayceono splashed home a winner at Portland Meadows on a day that looks as wet and muddy as they come!

Foaled on May 26, 1990, Elgrayceono was by Rebushthebearing and out of Flying KY (by Flying Lark). He was proudly bred in Oregon by Ray and Louise Boucher, whose breeding program contributed to the rich history of Oregon racing.

This photo perfectly captures the grit and determination that horse racing often demandsโ€”rain-soaked silks, a muddy track, and a hard-earned trip to the winner's circle. Days like these are part of what made Portland Meadows such a special place in Oregon racing history.

Do you remember Elgrayceono or racing at Portland Meadows on rainy winter afternoons? We'd love to hear your memories in the comments!
