🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET. ALWAYS REMEMBER. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001 — honoring the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the countless heroes who ran toward danger.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members, and everyday Americans who showed extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

From The Skate for the 22 Foundation, we honor their memory and carry their spirit of courage, commitment, and community forward.

25 years later, and forever — we remember.
9/11/2001 — NEVER FORGET.

Mark those calendars! On Saturday September 19th, we kick off the 2026/27 season welcoming our friends from jetBlue Hockey back to Exeter.

Regulation couldn’t settle this one last season before JetBlue took that one in a shootout, and we expect nothing short of that excitement this time!

Roster call will be going out to the players in the next couple of days.

September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, a dedicated time to raise mental health awareness, share vital crisis resources, and break the stigma surrounding su***de. Here at the Skate for the 22 Foundation, we embrace this awareness each day as individual players and together as a Foundation. Strength comes for those that speak up and step forward. We carry this awareness to the core of our Foundation, and if you or anyone you know could benefit from this post please give it a share or check out the many resources that the Skate for the 22 Foundation has to offer in connecting veterans to the care they may need.

Introducing our 3rd of 3 newly elected board members at our last meeting, Alaina Hayford! Alaina began skating just under two years ago and has already progressed to the point where she transitioned incredibly smoothly right into our games and weekly scrimmages.

Alaina Hayford, USAF (Ret.) served fifteen years in the United States Air Force, from 2009 to 2024. Her career encompassed both technical and analytical disciplines, beginning as an Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems Technician and later advancing into Maintenance Management Analysis. She deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, where her performance and contributions were formally recognized by the Commander of the Combined Joint Special Operations Air Component–Afghanistan (CJSOACA).

Following her retirement from military service, Ms. Hayford transitioned into leadership roles in finance, capital planning, and organizational strategy. She currently serves as the Director of Capital Planning & ESG at Discovery Senior Living, overseeing longterm capital strategy and sustainability initiatives for the largest privately owned senior living portfolio in the United States.

Ms. Hayford holds an M.B.A. in Growth & Innovation from the University of New Hampshire and is completing her M.S. in Project Management. She previously earned a B.S. in Environmental Science and two Associate degrees in aviation maintenance disciplines. She is the mother of two children, Natalie and Daniel, and enjoys long walks with her dogs, gardening, and exploring new hobbies. Thus mirrored in her personal path into hockey, beginning with learn to skate, progressing to learn to play, and ultimately leading her to the Skate for the 22 Foundation which provided renewed camaraderie and connection. She brings a mix of fresh ideas and young energy combined with strategic leadership and lived veteran experience to the Board.

Welcome to the Board, Alaina!

Leadership starts within. It takes strong leadership to maintain the integrity of an organization. On our last summer season skate this past Thursday, the foundations players and families came together to recognize its president Derek Reiss and his ongoing support and leadership that helps guide this foundation forward. Derek was presented a handmade, one of a kind, personalized cigar humidor, filled with his favorite ci**rs. Derek has been with the foundation for over 10 years and he continues the legacy and leadership of the foundations founder Robert "Bobby" Colliton who helped present Derek with his gift and recognition alongside the players of the Skate for the 22 Foundation.
