Who was the top brother tandem in stickball history? Kevin/John Juraska? Tony/Scott Wahl? DJ/Andrew Miller?

Special CNASL Rule # 4. Hit a batted ball into the hole in the tree that also served as the 3rd base line foul pole (see photo) and win the game. It was done only 1 time in the history of CNASL, by, yep, you guessed it... Stickball Legend Andrew Russell. By the way where is that guy?

Special CNASL Rule #2: Hitting a batted ball off of any of the 3 "in play" telephone poles = automatic grand slam.

Special CNASL Rule #1: Breaking a window on a house with a batted ball, to offset the negativity, was an automatic win for the batters team. (Sorry Mr. Guy who lives in the "Green Monster" but DJ Miller just broke your living room window ...the good news is his team just won the game!!!)

After Russ and yours truly... who holds the record for most CNASL (Colombia/Newton Ave Stickball League) games played all time? Jason Holmes, Chris C***s?

Andrew Russell made use of the common cards as well. During our late afternoon stickball games, he would emulate the batting stances of the players he got in his packs.....think Pete Incaviglia...Oscar Gamble....Brian Downing...Lloyd Moseby... "Russ" was, with little argument, the most legendary stickball player in the history of the Newton/Columbia Ave games.

The most sought after baseball cards of the time were the rookie cards of Ricky Henderson, Cal Ripken, Tony Gwynn, Don Mattingly, Darryl Strawberry, Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Will Clark, Wally Joyner, Greg Maddux, Bo Jackson...

The ride back from the store was filled with "Christmas Eve" like anticipation as we could not wait to get back home, open the packs and see which players were in the packs. We both were hoping for those highly sought after rookie cards. "Who'd ya get" were the 3 most spoken words in our neighborhood in the 80's.

We would use the money we made from mowing lawns, shoveling snow, cutting firewood and delivering newspapers to purchase packs of cards from Craig Hardin who was more than willing to share his knowledge of card collecting with us.

During my pre-teen and early teen years in the 1980's there was no greater joy than to go to the baseball card store. Andrew Russell, my neighbor and fellow, avid sports fan, would hop on our bikes and make the mile and a half ride from the corner of Newton Ave and Columbia Ave (This intersection also served as our stickball stadium) to Hardin's Sports Cards and Crafts located on Conklin Ave in Binghamton, NY.
