“Drop-in” doesn’t always mean drop-in.

A lot of aftermarket parts get marketed that way triggers, sights, barrels, kits. Some do install clean. A lot don’t.

Tolerances vary. Fitment issues show up. Safety and function can suffer if it’s forced in or left half-done.

That’s why we handle the install. Proper fit, proper function checks, no shortcuts.
Bring in the parts, and we’ll get it right for you.

Loaded it and forgot about it?

Magazine springs can take a set over time, especially when a magazine sits fully compressed for long periods without being used.

That can reduce spring effectiveness and eventually contribute to feeding issues, sluggish operation, or unreliable lock-back.

The simple fix? Use your magazines.

Rotate them. Shoot them. Pay attention to how they’re feeding. If an older mag starts acting different, don’t ignore it.

Magazines are wear items, and the spring inside them deserves the same attention as the rest of your fi***rm.

Not sure if your mags are still running like they should? Bring them by Under the Gun in Plano and let us take a look.

OVER CLEANING DESTROYS ACCURACY.

There. We said it.

A little fouling in a barrel isn’t automatically a problem.

In fact, many ri**es will settle into a point where a small amount of fouling is completely normal and still shoot consistently.

The problem is when shooters treat every range trip like the barrel needs to be stripped back to bare steel.

Aggressive chemicals.
Cheap cleaning rods.
Too much abrasion.
Bad technique.

That can do more damage than the fouling you were trying to remove.

BUT…

That doesn’t mean you should never clean your r***e.

Carbon and copper buildup can eventually reach a point where accuracy starts to fall off, groups open up, and reliability can suffer.

The goal isn’t a spotless barrel.

The goal is a CONSISTENT barrel.

Pay attention to what the gun is telling you.

If accuracy starts changing, groups begin opening up, or the r***e just isn’t performing the way it used to, it may be time for a proper cleaning.

Clean it when it needs it.
Clean it correctly.
Don’t overdo it.

Not sure where your r***e is at?

Bring it by Under the Gun in Plano and let us take a look.

HOT TAKE: Stop buying surplus guns.
Yeah, we said it.

There was a time when military surplus ri**es were one of the best values in the gun world. You could pick up a piece of history, shoot it, enjoy it, and not spend a fortune doing it.

Those days are mostly gone.

A lot of surplus guns have been artificially inflated to the point where the price has completely separated from what the gun actually is. Just because something is old, imported, discontinued, or has a military pedigree doesn’t automatically mean it’s worth the number somebody slapped on the tag.

And remember: you’re still buying an old fi***rm.

Wear, questionable storage, mismatched parts, tired springs, worn bores, and decades of unknown history can all come with the deal.

Are there collectible exceptions? Absolutely.

But buying a beat-up surplus r***e because “they’re only going up in value” isn’t always the investment people make it out to be.

If you’re buying one because somebody told you it’s a deal… do your homework first.

Think we’re wrong? Good.

Tell us which surplus gun is STILL worth buying in 2026. 👇

And if you’ve got an older r***e that needs to be inspected, cleaned, repaired, or brought back into fighting shape, bring it to Under the Gun in Plano.

We’ll tell you what you’ve actually got—and what it actually needs.

A busy shop is a good reminder: don’t wait until you need your fi***rm to find out it needs service.

Routine maintenance helps catch the small things before they become bigger problems. Carbon buildup, worn components, loose hardware, corrosion, or simply years of use can all affect how a fi***rm functions. Whether it’s your hunting sh***un, range r***e, competition gun, or something that’s been sitting in the safe, keeping up with cleaning, inspection, and service matters.

At Under the Gun, we handle everything from routine cleanings and safety checks to repairs, upgrades, and full gunsmithing work.

If you’ve been thinking, “I probably need to get that gun looked at,” this is your sign.

Bring it into the shop or call us today and get your fi***rm on the bench before you actually need it.

There’s something satisfying about watching a sh***un get fit the way it should.

This came across the bench for a new butt pad, which means carefully fitting and shaping the pad to match the stock rather than simply bolting one on and calling it done.

It’s a small detail, but it can make a big difference in how a sh***un looks, feels, and fits the shooter.

And whether your sh***un is a high-end over/under, a well-used hunting gun, a competition sh***un, or the first sh***un you ever bought, it deserves the same attention to detail.

Under the Gun in Plano handles everything from stock and recoil pad work to cleaning, repairs, modifications, machining, choke work, barrel work, and more.

If your sh***un needs a little attention, bring it by the shop and let’s take a look.

Sometimes the coolest guns that come through the door aren’t here for a major repair—they’re here because somebody knows we’re going to appreciate them.

One of our customers stopped by Under the Gun recently with a &T BWC9, and this is definitely one of those fi****ms that makes everybody in the shop stop what they’re doing for a minute.

The BWC9 is a folding 9mm platform built around the SIG P320 fire control unit. Its aluminum chassis folds down into a compact package, uses a spring-loaded deployment system, and comes equipped with an ACRO P-2.

It’s an unusual setup, and exactly the kind of thing we enjoy getting a chance to check out.

That’s one of the things we love about being a gun shop and gunsmith in Plano, TX. We get to see everything from everyday hunting ri**es and carry guns to historic fi****ms, unusual builds, and stuff you just don’t see very often.

Got a fi***rm that needs cleaning, repair, maintenance, upgrades, or gunsmithing work? Bring it by.

Got something cool you think we just need to see? Bring that by too.
