The girls have their first tournament this weekend, and we are so excited to get back on the field together. After all of their hard work, dedication, and commitment throughout the offseason, it’s finally time to see it all come together in action. We are proud of the effort these athletes continue to put in every single day and can’t wait to watch them compete, support one another, and grow as a team this season. Let’s get after it! 🥎 🔥 💫

Professional softball has existed for decades, including leagues such as National Pro Fastpitch (NPF), which operated from 2004–2021. However, the professional level has historically faced challenges with long-term stability, consistent investment, and national visibility.

That lack of visibility, not the absence of a league, has shaped how many fans perceive the pro game. Awareness has remained limited, even among softball audiences.

That’s changing.

Today, the Athletes Unlimited Softball League - AUSL is leading a renewed push to build a more sustainable future for professional softball.

The league returns for the 2026 season with key developments, including expansion from four to six teams and the introduction of designated home markets. This marks a step toward establishing stronger team identities and local fan bases.

The AUSL College Draft is set for May 4 (ESPN2), with Opening Day on June 9, marking the start of the league’s second season.

AUSL operates with support and strategic alignment from Major League Baseball, part of a broader effort to increase investment and visibility for the sport.

Softball doesn’t end after college, and we’re using our platform to bring more visibility to what comes next.

Happy Birthday, Cat!

We are so incredibly proud of how far you have come, not only as a player on the field but as a person off of it as well. Watching your growth, determination, and dedication over time has been truly special. The hard work you put in, and the way you continue to push yourself never go unnoticed. You bring so much heart to everything you do, and it shows in the way you compete, support your teammates, and carry yourself every day.

Keep throwing those strikes, crushing it at the plate, and continuing to believe in everything you are capable of, because your potential is endless. The impact you make reaches far beyond the game, and we are so excited to see all the great things still ahead for you. We hope this year brings you happiness, confidence, success, and everything you deserve.

Happy Birthday, Cat — enjoy your day, #9! 🎂🥎✨

Every time I say stop obsessing over winning at 9-10 and start developing players, someone ALWAYS has something to say.

Relax.

Of course winning matters.
But if winning at 10U is the entire plan, you’ve already missed the point.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth a lot of people don’t want to hear:

There are a LOT of youth teams winning tournaments right now that are absolutely ruining players in the process.

Yep. I said it.

Pitchers throwing 120+ pitches every weekend.
Kids stuck at one position at 9 years old because it helps the team win today.
Teams picking up players just for tournaments so they can stack a roster and post a trophy picture on Facebook.

That’s not development.

That’s adult ego wrapped in a youth uniform.

If your entire identity as a coach or parent is built around a plastic ring from a Saturday tournament, you’re going to cut corners.

You’ll skip mechanics because it’s easier to just say “throw strikes.”
You’ll overpitch the one kid who can win games.
You’ll sit kids instead of letting them learn through mistakes.

And guess what?

It works… for a while.

You might win a bunch of 10U and 12U tournaments.

But fast forward a few years and suddenly those same kids:

• burn out
• lose confidence
• quit the sport
• or hit high school completely unprepared

Meanwhile the teams that were actually developing athletes — rotating positions, teaching mechanics, letting kids struggle and learn — those are the players who start dominating later.

Because development compounds.

Winning early is loud.

Development is quiet… until it isn’t.

And here’s the other truth people hate hearing:

No college coach cares about your 10U ring.

Not one.

They care if your kid can:

• move athletically
• handle failure
• make adjustments
• compete under pressure
• and be coachable

None of that gets built chasing weekend trophies.

It gets built in the hard, uncomfortable process of learning the game.

So yeah…
If your team goes 3–3 in a tournament but your players actually get better?

That’s a win.

And if your whole goal is just posting a trophy picture every weekend…

You’re not building players.

You’re just collecting plastic.

And one day those trophies will be sitting in a dusty box in the attic anyway.
