Well, National Open 33, what can I say? First time out there this year and only the 6th race for the whole year- I think we did pretty okay.
Starting off in hot laps, we really battled with the car. Didn’t have any speed, ending up 70+ out of 94 cars. Definitely not the speed we wanted while trying to be up front in the A.
Time trials: we threw the book at it and tried finding some speed. We ended up 9th out of 94 cars. Amazingly, we held quick time for a little bit. At the same time, there were a lot of fast cars after us and the track started coming around , so we stayed in 9th. This put us on the pole in the 9th heat.
Heat race: we led half of the heat race, but the car wasn’t feeling right. The motor blew up and we didn’t get to finish. This put us in the C main, now we needed to work our way up to the A main.
C main: Fortunately, we got our motor changed out. This couldn’t have happened if the Dunmire’s weren’t there to help and lend me a motor to get us back in the race! We got out there and finished in 2nd- transferring us to the B main.
B main: Started 22nd position and climbed up to 7th. With the first 9 being transferred to the A main, we made the show.
A main: We were in the 27th starting position. After a long 40 lap race, we finished in 9th. With it only being the 6th race of the season and the first race at Linda’s, we will definitely take it. We learned so much about the car and driving this weekend. We cannot wait to try again next year!
We want to give a huge thank you to Steve and Darryl Dunmire and the whole family! We couldn’t have done it without you this year.
