With the right conditions, those blues could be pushing 50+ pounds in 10-15 years.
This week's was submitted by WCO Brian Guenin, eastern Allegheny County, and is titled "Go BLUE!!":
Last year, I had the honor of being involved with the restoration of Blue Catfish in the Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny rivers. I initially thought it would be like any other stocking where people showed up, and some helped while others observed. However, when I arrived at the stocking point, the Blue Catfish stocking felt different.
Between the media, PFBC staff and local attendance, the experience gave me a better idea of the importance of my duties. I was privileged to embody the Fish and Boat Commission's Mission Statement, which includes providing fishing and boating opportunities.
After all the thanks, handshakes and camera time, I reflected on the experience. In possibly 10-15 years, I could witness an angler reel in a 30-pound Blue Catfish, and I was the WCO that released the first one into the river. I canβt wait to see what happens!!!!
