•Where are you from, and what are you planning to major in?

Hazard, KY. Majoring in Biology.

•What is your ultimate career goal after you graduate ALC?

Enter a dental school, so that I can follow through with my dream of becoming a dentist!

•Why did you decide ALC was the right fit for you?

The college is located close to home. In addition, the college has a smaller environment with more condensed spaces. I am able to continue my academic and athletic journey! Also, I got into the Honor’s Program so I now qualify for the Caney Cottage and additional promotions, which was a huge contributor.

•What do you love most about cross country, and what is your favorite memory so far?

I love that cross country is a sport that can still be enjoyed even after collegiate participation or for some high school athletes. My favorite memory was getting to do snow runs during November with my teammates!

•What is your proudest accomplishment or accolade?

While maintaining a near perfect GPA, and participating in other clubs. I have PR’d at almost every cross country meet.

•What are your biggest personal goals for yourself this season, and what expectations do you have for the team?

I would like to see myself get faster, and to have better endurance. For the team, it is important that we all work together, and have a positive attitude while doing so.

•If you could only have one post-race meal for the rest of your life, what are you choosing?

I would go to a Mexican restaurant and order a quesadilla with salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and queso. For the drink, I always get lemonade!

•Who is your favorite athlete, and what is your favorite sport to watch?

Simone Biles, and my favorite sport to watch is gymnastics.

•Outside of running and classes, what is your favorite hobby or way to spend your free time?

My favorite hobby is playing pickle ball!

•Do you have any hidden talents or a fun fact that most people don't know about you?

The fact that I am a cat lover! I have a Siamese at home named Stella, which I enjoy spending most of my days with.

•Where are you from, and what are you planning to major in?

I am from Hazard, Kentucky, and I plan to major in biology.

•What is your ultimate career goal after you graduate?

To get into a dental or medical school that is hopefully at the University of Kentucky.

•Why did you decide ALC was the right fit for you?

I enjoyed the perks the honors program had to offer when it came to someone wanting to attend professional school. The Caney Cottage was my favorite. I also like that I can choose to just run cross country.

•What do you love most about cross country, and what is your favorite memory so far?

I love how I not only get fit, but I also get to be surrounded by nature. My favorite memory is always when running during the fall, since I get to see the leaves change and the weather.

•What is your proudest accomplishment or accolade?

I have maintained above a 4.0 gpa throughout high school, even when taking college courses. I also enjoy how much faster my times were this season than they ever were.

•What are your biggest personal goals for yourself this season, and what expectations do you have for the team?

I want to get faster, and not get injured. My expectations for the team is for everyone to respect each other, and to not try and control other teammates.

•If you could only have one post-race meal for the rest of your life, what are you choosing?

I would eat shrimp and chicken tacos.

•Who is your favorite athlete, and what is your favorite sport to watch?

My favorite athlete is Alysa Liu. My favorite sport to watch is ice skating.

•Outside of running and classes, what is your favorite hobby or way to spend your free time?

Relaxing on my phone, and watching TV.

•Do you have any hidden talents or a fun fact that most people don't know about you?

For the HOSA club, me and my sister are partners for the CPR/First Aid division. We have qualified for internationals twice with last year getting 3rd in KY and this year getting 2nd in KY. Only top 3 in each state qualify for internationals. During the week of June 17th, we will be trying to make top 10 in the world for our division.

Junior (transfer): Alejandra Espinoza

•Where are you from, and what are you planning to major in?

I am from Pharr, Texas and I am majoring in Kinesiology.

•What is your ultimate career goal after you graduate?

My ultimate career goal after I graduate is to go to PT school and to start my journey as a physical therapist.

•Why did you decide ALC was the right fit for you?

I decided that ALC was the right fit for me because they have a good kinesiology program and the atmosphere is really nice and comforting.

•What do you love most about cross country, and what is your favorite memory so far?

I love that I get to enjoy the view. My favorite memory was running in Iowa for nationals. I got to experience what it feels like to run in the snow!

•What is your proudest accomplishment or accolade?

My proudest accomplishment was being able to PR in the 1500.

•What are your biggest personal goals for yourself this season, and what expectations do you have for the team?

My personal goal is to to be able to get better at long distance and stay consistent. I hope that as a team we push each other and for us to have a good season!

•If you could only have one post-race meal for the rest of your life, what are you choosing?

Chick-fil-A!!

•Who is your favorite athlete, and what is your favorite sport to watch?

My favorite athlete is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Lionel Messi. My favorite sport to watch is track and field and soccer.

•Outside of running and classes, what is your favorite hobby or way to spend your free time?

My favorite hobby is crocheting and learning sign language. I like to spend my free time with my boyfriend.

Fun fact about me is I know a little bit of sign language!

I am from Harlan County. I’m going to major in education.

•What is your ultimate career goal after you graduate?

My career goal is to become a k-1st grade teacher!

•Why did you decide ALC was the right fit for you?

Alice Lloyd just felt like home, the education opportunities are endless there, and I loved the people!

•What do you love most about cross country, and what is your favorite memory so far?

What I love most about cross country is how much it pushes you physical and mentally. My favorite memory I’ve made in cross country was being able to run at state this past year!

•What is your proudest accomplishment or accolade?

My proudest accomplishment is being able to help my team win both state and region within my last year of cross country!

•What are your biggest personal goals for yourself this season, and what expectations do you have for the team?

My biggest personal goal is to beat my PR. My expectations for my team is to support each other and grow not just individually but as a team!

•If you could only have one post-race meal for the rest of your life, what are you choosing?

Spaghetti!

My favorite athlete is Catlin Clark and I like to watch volleyball.

In my free time I love tanning, eating good food, and swimming!

•Where are you from, and what are you planning to major in?

I’m from Coeburn, Virginia. I plan on majoring in elementary education.

•What is your ultimate career goal after you graduate?

To be teaching in a school and/or working in my masters.

•Why did you decide ALC was the right fit for you?

When I toured the campus last July, it felt like home. I had toured a couple different colleges before ALC, but they didn’t feel the same!

•What do you love most about cross country, and what is your favorite memory so far?

There’s many reasons why I love cross country, but my ultimate favorite is the bond you create with your team through hard work, dedication, and commitment.

•What is your proudest accomplishment or accolade?

My proudest accomplishment for cross country would be that I got to run with a state championship team. We put in the hard work and it paid off.

•What are your biggest personal goals for yourself this season, and what expectations do you have for the team?

My biggest personal goals for this season would be to shorten my race time. I also expect my team to always try their best.

•If you could only have one post-race meal for the rest of your life, what are you choosing?

Texas Roadhouse.

•Who is your favorite athlete, and what is your favorite sport to watch?

I don’t necessarily have a favorite athlete, but my favorite sport to watch is football.

I love to read and hang out with friends.

Freshman: Destany Armendariz

•Where are you from, and what are you planning to major in?

I’m from Grundy, Virginia. I’m majoring in business and marketing.

•What is your ultimate career goal after you graduate?

Earning my degree, finishing collegiate sports and starting my own business.

•Why did you decide ALC was the right fit for you?

It felt like another home! They made it super affordable for me to be able to go to college.

•What do you love most about cross country, and what is your favorite memory so far?

The family built during cross country, the trips to and from meets are always the best memories, and just having someone cheer you on no matter what!

•What is your proudest accomplishment or accolade?

Going to state all 4 years of highschool and meeting every goal I had for myself.

•What are your biggest personal goals for yourself this season, and what expectations do you have for the team?

I want us to go far and accomplish everything coach Kaitlynn and Ryan expects of us. I know it’s going to be a great season.

•If you could only have one post-race meal for the rest of your life, what are you choosing?

I’m not picky so honestly anything!

•Who is your favorite athlete, and what is your favorite sport to watch?

I don’t have one and I don’t watch sports.

•Outside of running and classes, what is your favorite hobby or way to spend your free time?

Playing volleyball, or even just doing something crafty.

•Do you have any hidden talents or a fun fact that most people don’t know about you?

I’m pretty much an open book! I’ve never had a lot of time out of sports. But in my free time I go and help work with little kids on the sports I play and help with camps.
