Did you know that Warner Brothers paid the legendary Bobby Jones $120,000 for filming How I Play Golf, which was all placed in a trust for his children? The second film, How to Break 90, paid him another $120,000. A total of 30 million viewers saw them in 6,000 movie houses.

In 1958, in an official ceremony, Bobby was awarded the “Freeman of St. Andrews”, where he famously said, “If I could take out of my life everything except my experiences at St. Andrews, I would still have a rich and full life.” The only other American to win the “Freeman of St. Andrews” award was Ben Franklin. Bobby had only ever made two holes in one - #11 at East Lake ,and #14 at Augusta CC. The latter was a 4 iron from 145 yards!

Jones was beloved on and off the course by the pros too. He could drink with Tommy Armour or Walter Hagen or just be as likable not drinking with Francis Ouimet. He was spontaneous and loyal to his friends, all of whom called him Bob. His closest friend was Robert P Jones, his father, whom everyone called The Colonel.

Those films are still in circulation today and are acclaimed by many as the pre-eminent instruction on golf shot making.
