The Mathews Memorial Day Open, now referred to as the MMDO, started in 2005 as an annual Memorial Day family picnic outing. Originally to the Sycamore Creek Disc Golf Course and now moved to the Simsbury Park Disc Golf Course. Adults and kids alike packed up their discs and headed to the course for a casual round of disc golf. After a few years the idea of making it a more formal event started to

take shape. Disc Golf Mart® came on board as the sponsor so the event could remain Free to all who wanted to participate. 2017 marks the 7th year the tournament has been offered Free to the public with the purpose of honoring Military Service.
