The hockey stick wax step most players skip: buff it in with a puck.
After waxing your blade, run a puck back and forth over the tape 10–15 times. This works the wax into the cloth instead of leaving a slick layer on top. Less snow sticks. The tape stays drier. Your release stays more consistent later in the skate.
Then count your wraps. Most blade jobs land around 8–12. Same overlap. Same tension. Same wax. Same feel. That is one less variable for your hands to figure out at full speed.
Is it equipment maintenance or a ritual you will defend forever? Both.
If you scored with 11 wraps and 12 puck passes, congratulations. That is your personality now.
What is the wrap count you refuse to change?
