In the 50’s Wushu was re-established and re-standardized, taking the traditional art forms from the village and “sifu” and creating a curriculum to be used to standardize martial arts into a new popular sport which could reach the millions of people not just in the villages and communes but the big cities. Wu Shu has been transforming since 1958. During the “cultural revolution”, because of the 10 years of chaos, wushu practice and progression was stopped. Not until the 70’s was its practice renewed again. It has since gone through more changes and been re-created. Here is a short collage of the progression of modern Wushu Nan Chuan style. From 60’s - 80’s the early formative years… I will add nineties and 2000’s next.
