Future High School Baseball Players: READ THIS if you actually want to make the team
Most kids think high school baseball starts in 9th grade.
Wrong.
It starts NOW—in how you train, recover, and show up when nobody’s watching.
If you want to walk into tryouts already ahead, here’s what actually matters:
⚾ 1. Get strong, not just “fit”
* Legs + core = power (sprints, squats, jumps)
* Arm care daily (bands, not just throwing)
* Learn how to lift correctly, not ego lift
⚾ 2. Hit every day (even if it’s 20 minutes)
* Tee work > random swings
* Focus on barrel control, not just exit velocity
* Track what you’re bad at, not just what feels good
⚾ 3. Speed changes everything
* 10–20 yard sprints
* First step explosiveness
* If you’re slow, you’re replaceable
⚾ 4. Play smarter baseball
* Watch high school + college games
* Learn situations (2 outs, runner on 3rd, etc.)
* Baseball IQ separates starters from bench players
⚾ 5. Show up like you already belong
* Hustle every rep
* No excuses, no drama
* Coaches notice energy before talent
Truth: Talent gets you noticed.
Work ethic keeps you on the field.
If you’re serious about high school baseball… act like it starts today, not later.
