Clinton County Fair and War Horses for Veterans shoots with Eastern Iowa CMSA .- These are always fun and make for a great weekend of camping!
We were able to celebrate a friend’s birthday, enjoy some great food with friends and our friends took great care of mom - keeping everyone fed while mom worked the office. These memories we are making are priceless!

Clinton County Fair: 🎡
Haddie- Class win, 11th overall
Mom- Class win
Ellie- 3rd in her class

War Horses for Veterans at M-7: 🇺🇸
Mom- ran the office
Haddie: Day 1
Day 2: clean lines make for fast runs!
Day 3: first day as a ladies 2!!!
(Thinking she may get brave and try Calvary soon)!!

Ellie:
Day 1: 13th over all and a class win, 3rd in limited shotgun
Day 2: some smokin fast runs and some good lessons learned😉, 2nd overall in rifle and 1st in limited. 5th overall Calvary and 2nd in limited Calvary.
day 3: 3rd in her class, 7th overall shotgun, limited shotgun win!

What a few weeks we have had. Playing catch up while at county fair…
First Iowa State Championship in Mason City. A big shout out to IACMSA for hosting! Amazing people and so many volunteers to make these things come together! Thank you Anna Lynn Bonner for hosting us and our ponies over night.

Mom played show mom all weekend and let Ellie steal her steed.

Ellie:
Main match 5th in Ladies3- tough go with a few missed targets
Rifle: Had a gun malfunction and came in 5th in limited.
Shotgun: 7th in limited shotgun
Calvary: 2nd in limited Calvary (8th overall)

Haddie:
1st ever Ladies 1 win and buckle winner for the weekend! And first shoot on her ‘new to her’ horse Addie!

What do the Dykstras do on the hottest day of the year after a full day of work in town? My (Laci’s) dad would have loved it. He loved putting up hay. Even when his health was failing he’d pull the baler. We all joked tonight about missing his worn out straw boy boy hat and cut off t-shirts and Diet Dew mixed gatorades.

This last Weds- Sunday we traveled to our first CMSA major in Lincoln, NE.

Ellie and mom went and Haddie stayed back for play tryouts and her band concert- more to come on that in a bit.

Nationals was a hit! Everyone was so welcoming and helpful! Madi tagged along and a lot of fun was had!

Ellie:
1st Ladies Limited Rifle
6th Limited Rifle
6th Ladies Limited Shotgun (one miss)
14th Limited Shotgun
3rd Limited Calvary
11th Overall Calvary
Main match was a little rough with misses and a lost stirrup and landed last in her class- not what she was hoping for but we learned we cannot get ahead of the horse.

The old mare keeps showing up.
She ran mom’s horse Lena in day 2 add worked out a few bugs… girl can shoot clean when horse bucks the entire course…

What a weekend!

Ellsworth in Iowa Falls did not disappoint.
We had heat, humidity and a good storm. Is that what good shoots are made of?

Ellie finished 3rd in her class riding 2 steeds (Lucky and Lena) this weekend. She was nice enough to share ol Lucky with Haddie as Patch wasn’t feeling great on Saturday morning. She had a few misses but still ran hard and was happy with Lucky as she is doing better with gun fire.

Haddie had a blast with her friends, ran Lucky for her first time 💨, learned ahe can go fast if she she asks for it, finished 3rd in her class and learned she is a better rider than she thought. Patch came out for the second day of shooting and got a little frisky coming to the timer.

Mom started out rough. She is maybe still a little gun shy after the ankle dislocation last fall. It’s not the shooting getting her down but fear of a bad shut down. Each ride was better than the last right up to the last ride. Learning to trust the horse again has been great. Mom is usually the problem… not the horse. Still finished in top half of the class which was a win!
