It's a great time to give karate a try! For the month of June, Krauss Traditional Karate is running a tuition special of $30 for the whole month. The training schedule is a bit varied compared to previous months, so please take some time to look through the June calendar we posted.

This tuition break applies to both current students and new students for any number of classes.

No sign ups are required, but, if you do plan to come, please send me a message so I have an idea what the class sizes might look like. New students must sign waivers prior to training. Recommended that kids be 7 years old to start.

Regular tuition will then resume in the month of July

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Today’s student of the week is Isaac. Isaac is 13 years old and was just promoted to a green belt with stripe (5th gup). Some of his favorite things about karate include breaking boards and doing push ups! He also explains that he enjoys that martial arts gives him an opportunity to improve his skills and to learn bits of a new language. When asked what he’s learned so far as a karate student, he listed the following: self-defense, self-control, and respect for anyone.

Isaac is Sabumnim’s nephew and a very committed student at KTK. When learning new techniques and forms, he often asks excellent questions to make sure he’s doing the correct thing or practicing correctly. Isaac puts regular training time in at home (which is always a great idea!) and never complains when Sabumnim pushes the class a little with challenging exercises or “burnout rounds.”

We are so glad to have Isaac in class! Tang Soo!

Here is the June calendar for KTK! Summer is here. Similar to last June, the training calendar is a bit all over the place. Here is some important information about the calendar.

First of all, there is a tuition discount! All students pay a flat fee of $30 and can train as many days in the month as they are able to. If you know someone who's been interested in starting classes, this is a great way to give it a try.

Because all the days and times are irregular, I will do my best to post reminders of class times at the beginning of every week.

The two Sunday classes this month will once again be split into a Kids Class and a Teens/Adults Class. The Kids Class is for kids through 5th grade and is lower intensity. The Teen/Adult class is higher intensity for 6th graders through adults. Students may attend whichever class is better for their schedule, but should be ready for the appropriate training level.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out or message me!

This afternoon at KTK, months of hard work and dedication paid off. Congratulations to everyone who tested and received their new gup ranks. We are proud of your efforts! We were also delighted to have Sabumnim Beegle from Joe Goss Karate as our guest to help facilitate the test.

Tang Soo, and keep up the good work!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
(Catching up from missed weeks)

Today’s student of the week is Ahayla. Ahayla is 12 years old and is a yellow belt (9th gup). Some of her favorite things about karate include breaking boards and forms. When asked what she’s learned so far as a karate student, her most honest response was “everything…I’m new.” She then listed off things like forms, kicks, breaks, and self-defense.

In addition to classes at KTK, Ahayla is part of the middle school karate club. Though she’s a newer student, Ahayla shows great promise and precision in her training, especially in her kicking ability. While she didn’t write about sparring in her questionnaire, she is more than capable of holding her own in a sparring match against higher ranked students!

We are so glad to have Ahayla in class! Tang Soo!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Today’s student of the week is LynnLee. LynnLee is 8 years old and is a yellow belt (9th gup). Some of her favorite things about karate are kicking, sparring, and board breaking. LynnLee is also lucky enough to be taking classes with her dad and brother. When asked what she’s learned so far as a karate student, LynnLee says she’s learned form #1, back kicks, and punches.

LynnLee is very observant as a student, and she does a good job of self-correcting her techniques and stances when they need to be. Don’t let her quiet demeanor fool you, her ki-ahps and kicks are louder and stronger than you think.

We are so glad to have LynnLee in class! Tang Soo!

5/19 CLASS IN CHURCH PAVILION AT 4:30PM

I put off writing this announcement to check the shade and temperature up there just now. The church social hall is being used for Primary Elections today, so martial arts class will be in the pavilion on the church property.

Students should be fine to wear their full dobak. If anyone is concerned about overheating, I would be ok with a plain, white or plain, black t-shirt instead of the dobak top. But I think the temperature will be just fine in the shade of the pavilion.

I will have a big cooler with water bottles and ice for the students, and we'll be taking plenty of water breaks!
