WE RUN WITH AHMAUD ALWAYS.
I didn’t create this account as a political statement. And lately it exists as essentially an archive of the past. But as runners I’ve always felt we’re in this together. Tragedy surrounds us everyday, but when a tragedy is so ugly and strikes a human being that was merely doing what we all love, somehow it feels like it affects us deeper.
I’d like to think this could have happened to any of us, but the fact is this young man was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, encountered the wrong people, and was the “wrong color”. But why does that matter? It shouldn’t. He, like all of us should be able to enjoy countless miles without worrying about being murdered - end of story.
I got this symbol as a reminder that we are all equal in the eyes of the universe. Individualy we can’t change the world, but collectively maybe there’s hope. And while I’m aware a post on social media won’t hit the problem head on, maybe if our little corner of the world can be more accepting of people that are different from us, we can slowly reach the people that need it most.
Just some thoughts I had on my run today. I hope you all have been well. All my best.
