Barnard EcoReps

Barnard EcoReps Barnard ROOTS takes on environmental initiatives on and off Barnard's campus. We take on environmental initiatives on and around campus.

Barnard ROOTS was born when Barnard EcoReps and Barnard Environmentalists united forces in fall 2015. Barnard ROOTS works on a range of projects, so you can get involved in the work that most interests you--whether that's running big campus events like the Green Sale, hosting discussions and speakers at Sustainable Suppers, or planting in a plot in Riverside Park. Our name has changed back to EcoReps in 2017.

These record breaking temperatures can affect the health of millions of people from young to old.

In the future, the mix of heat and humidity could be so extreme that the evaporation of human sweat may not sufficiently cool our bodies.

Calling all EcoReps! 💚

The Earth Institute is looking for volunteers for this year’s Lamont-Doherty Open House, scheduled for Saturday, October 13th from 10am-4pm. Volunteer assignments vary and range from greeting visitors at the welcome tent to assisting in tents with demonstrations and activities. Volunteers staff the tour sign-up tables, help direct attendees, staff exhibits, help with lectures, and generally troubleshoot problems as they occur and fill in as needed.
The Open House website, https://openhouse.ldeo.columbia.edu/ has current information on the exhibits, shuttle schedules, etc.

Lunch will be provided, and all volunteers are invited to attend the Volunteer After-Party that starts at 4:30pm behind Lamont Hall.

We ask that you volunteer for a 2-3 hour period. If you have a strong preference for your time slot, get in touch with the Earth Institute as soon as possible. The time before and after your slot is yours to explore the event.

Volunteer time slots are:
8-10am
10-12pm
12-2pm
2-4pm

Volunteers should arrive 15-30 minutes before their assignment begins (travel to the event via the Columbia/Lamont Shuttle on 120th outside of Teacher's College - approximately 45 minutes). This allows time to check in at the Welcome Tent to receive an event t-shirt, a name tag, lunch voucher, and assignment instructions.

If you are interested please let Phebe Pierson ([email protected]) at the Earth Institute know if you would like to sign up to volunteer! Please send her an email including the following:

-What time slot you prefer
-Your t-shirt size (unisex)
-Dietary restrictions
-Your cell phone #

Once you have sent your information, there will be a confirmation email with details on how to get to Lamont and your assignment for that day. Any additional questions about timing and travel can be emailed to Phebe. Any questions about the volunteering experience and what it is like for students can be emailed to Sonia Cisneros ([email protected]).

We hope you consider this fun opportunity to explore and learn more about the environment and Columbia's campus out of New York City!
