The Rust Belt GP at Gingerman wrap up!

This weekend we returned to Gingerman to race in The 24 Hours of Lemons. Returning drivers Steve Reihner, Brian Osborne, Eric Hogue and Jay Naling were driving #89 Sugar Honey Iced Tea, and Riley Mullen, Brian "Shep" Shepard, Joey Schwierking and Elizabeth Anne were driving #53 Dumpster Fire.

Friday was testing and tech, and a lot of photo ops with our biggest fan! On Saturday Steve and Liz started the race, with Steve taking the green, and Sugar Honey Iced Tea leading the race and class for a split second. The race was going well, apart from some black flags to be paid for with Malort that evening. Just before the checkered, #89 suffered a drivers side ball joint failure at turn 9, and crossed the start finish on the flatbed, while Joey got to take the checkered flag in #53 at his first race! We ended the day 8th and 7th in B class in quite a competitive field of cars. Matt DC went to work fixing #89, which included replacing the upright, hub bearing, ball joint, axle, and inner and outer tie rods, a wheel, doing an alignment, some paddock body work and prepping both cars for the next day.

We were ready to go on Sunday, and Brian and Joey started us out for Session I before quiet hours. After the break, Jay and Shep jumped in, and the two cars were in 11th and 7th. Shortly after the restart #53 was involved in an incident at turn 3, resulting in a bent outer tie rod, and broken corner light. Matt worked his magic, and had the car back in the race in an hour. The team worked together to bring both cars across the finish line after a challenging, but rewarding weekend.

RESULTS
In an overall field of 87 cars with 38 in B class we finished:

#89 Sugar Honey Iced Tea
8th in class
19th overall

#53 Dumpster Fire
17th in class
36th overall
