It feels odd to be a refugee - my shop and other means of income generation have been destroyed, yet so far my ‘home’ still exists……l got a chance to see the house recently but because no power, water or road access……I'm not sure when/if I'll be allowed back in. And Pele may remain relentless and take the house yet.
I managed to evacuate with my cat Guido and essential tools and materials, of course much went up in smoke with my workshop of 27 years. In the meantime I'm staying with friends, have a small space to work, and I'm pondering my next steps.
I want to continue my work of Natural Fiber Composites. I am exploring ideas about how I could use my techniques in other areas than the surf industry - affordable disaster housing is one. What I know is that I need to reestablish my capacity to create products and explore new ideas that are ecological and innovative.
