Hello! I was raised in Prince George’s County and graduated from Oxon Hill High School. Talking about excited!

My name is Jacinda Johnson (Coach Cindy) and I am delighted to be able to work with you or your child/children. I established my tennis career in 1996 competing through high school and two years on the collegiate level for the University of the District of Columbia. During that time period I traveled to the United States Tennis Association National event as well as the American Tennis Association

National event. In 1997 I was a finalist in many local tournaments and statewide. I carried my championship spirit through 1998 quickly climbing the state of Maryland local ranking system. In 1999 my doubles partner and I finished in 2nd place at the ATA National event. I took a break as a young adult and gave birth to my son Samonte. I jumped back on the tennis court in 2019. I have been a finalist with my mixed doubles partner in several local tournaments and we won two local tournaments. I have also been a finalist with my female doubles partner in a local tournament. In October 2022 I was a part of a mixed 18 and over adult team who were finalists in the USTA National 18 and Over Mixed tournament that took place in Arizona, Nevada. I take every opportunity to continue to learn on and off the court to stay competitive and to work on my fitness. I want to bring the excitement of tennis to you or your child/children. I have my coaching certification through the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), Safe Play certified through the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Personal Trainer Certified through International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) and CPR certified through the American Red Cross. I am prepared to teach tennis by employing methods developed and adopted by the USTA called the American Development Model. It focuses on curtailing early specialization (meaning to encourage the youth to play other sports), developing multi-sport athletes (through footwork and agility), increase youth physical activity and bring fun, friendships, and skill to the sport of tennis! I will have support from PTR (Professional Tennis Registry), USTA (United States Tennis Association), and ITF (International Tennis Federation). I can’t wait to meet you or your junior athlete!

Singles Chronicles: Coaches don't always win.....but today I did!

6-2, 5-5 time (I was up by game count so I win. Adult tennis is timed.)

Notes:
Stay aggressive when receiving soft serves. I like to walk forward a touch before my split step. To help me establish a rhythm before my swing. (Works for me 🤷🏾‍♀️)

Beware a chatty opponent. They will quickly distract you from your focus...even if you feel unshakeable. I like to politely say....no offense but I prefer to compete without chatting between points.

I missed a ton of shots based on NOT LOOKING AT THE BALL. Oh goodness Coach get it together 🤦🏾‍♀️🤣🤣 I will incorporate some hand eye drills along with continuing to jump rope.

Grind don't stop! Please share your notes below 🙂 how'd you play today?!

Doubles Chronicles: Coaches don't always win but today my partner and I did!

6-3, 6-3 (adult tennis)

I had a mixed doubles match today that was really fun! I love pace and I can't say that enough 🤣

Notes: We heard this before....footwork, footwork, footwork. I know we know...I am jumping rope this week.

If I poach be sure to play the angles and put the ball away! I gave my opponents too many chances to stay in the point.

Be sure to keep a firm but not tight grip on my racket. I had shots that definitely should have gone over the net however I'm not loading properly.

How did you play today?!

Singles chronicles: *Coaches don't always win (but today I did 🙂)*

6-1, 2-6, 1-0 time (adult tennis is timed)
Notes:
Don't allow players to get you out of character with bad line calls and passive aggressive behavior. It's a tactic that some people resort to when they are out skilled. Do your best to refocus and concentrate on playing the ball. I personally took a moment to pray and focus my energy into watching the ball through my shots.

Try not to play down to your opponent (easier said than done) you'll hear some players say garbage in garbage out. I say garbage in stroke it out. Slow your feet down and focus on your contact point. You'll be surprised how many winners you have in you.

Footwork. Footwork. Footwork. Being the age I am my workouts look a lot different from being a junior. Still jumping rope all this week. I'll incorporate other things as the weather starts to cool off.

I lost today by game count. 7-5, 0-4 time. Adult tennis is timed.
Here are my notes:
Keep your feet moving (yes my footwork needs work), Stay in your shot and don't try to recover before you hit the ball (a solid strike matters), Don't be over confident (keep working for every point).
Remedy for me: I will jump rope for at least 5 min on court while moving towards the net and across the baseline (5 min each direction).

Me like! 😍 I'm so glad Prince Tennis is making a come back. I grew up on Prince and can't wait to show up in Prince from head to toe. So nostalgic for me 🥰

Jacinda
What did I do this morning? Played my 3.5 ladies single match and won! Adult matches are timed so we didn't complete the second set. I stayed patient and went for my shots. My drop shots were on fire today 😉

My notes: keep my feet moving, stop running over the ball, keep my eye on the ball.

Surface: Clay but in DC I call it finely ground pebbles 🤣

Did you play today? Share your notes.
