Justin Rogers Memorial Scholarship Fund

Justin Rogers Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarships provided to selected Tioga Central School graduating football players or wrestlers, and seniors entering the military.

The Justin Rogers Memorial Scholarship was created by Justin's family to preserve the memory of our local armed services hero who died in Afganistan in June 2013.This fund provides scholarships to Tioga Central School graduates entering the military and enlisted at the time of their graduation, and selected graduating football players or wrestlers. Applications for the scholarship are required. Th

e Scholarship funds are generated by family and friends of Justin's through annual fund-raising activities; the most popular is a golf tournament offered in late summer/early fall. Individual donations and other fund-raising activities are welcomed to help keep this scholarship going for the years to come and to preserve Justin's memory in a positive and giving way.

Happy birthday tomorrow, Justin. This picture has always been a favorite of mine. Those bright blue eyes, that magnetic smile. A day that was so important in transitioning you into the man you became. This is the image that always comes to my mind EVERYTIME I think of you. You live on in the hearts of so many, my charismatic nephew. You made a lasting, unforgettable impact in so many people’s lives. I love and miss you.

This weekend we remember and thank those of our fallen military - who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country so that we may have the freedom we enjoy and often take for granted today. Please take a moment of your day each day this Memorial Day Weekend to appreciate and thank those individuals who fought, and lost their lives, for this great country.

Today is Wreaths Across America day where cemeteries who participate throughout the country put wreaths headstones of those who have served in rememberence of them.

Teresa and I went to Tioga Cemetery in Owego, NY to volunteer. This was the first year this cemetery participated and there was not enough wreaths for each headstone. This year there also was not enough donations for wreaths for all in Arlington, but each headstone still received a wreath.

It is a small gesture, but if you’d like to donate your time to volunteer or funds to purchase a wreath or two for next year, it will help tremendously.

Congratulations young men and young lady on your scholarship awards. Take this award with you into the future and maintain Justin’s memory within (and outside) the walls of Tioga Central School.

Thinking of you, Justin, your parents and your siblings this Memorial Weekend.

Word of Advice: There is nothing ‘happy’ to the families of those who died while serving. Instead of saying ‘Happy Memorial Day/Weekend’, perhaps you can say ‘Have a Peaceful Memorial Day/Weekend’ and give a moment of silence for the fallen.
