East Carolina University's Center for Applied Psychophysiology

East Carolina University's Center for Applied Psychophysiology What is Biofeedback? Biofeedback is a treatment technique whereby people learn to balance their nervous system by using signals from their own bodies.

ECU’s Center for Applied Psychophysiology (CAP) prepares students from a variety of educational disciplines to become advanced practitioners and researchers in the areas of biofeedback, health games, and virtual reality. CAP provides training for biofeedback certification and develops mobile health technology products and services designed to measure and improve physiological, emotional, and cogni

tive performance. Therapists using biofeedback as a treatment tool can train people to alter brain activity, blood pressure, heart rate, and other body functions that are often thought to be involuntary. As an example, Recreational Therapists can use biofeedback to help tense and anxious clients learn how to relax. A monitoring device such as an ear clip or finger cuff is attached to the client, and it records changes in heart or breathing rate as the individual participates in a recreational activity, such as playing a video game. Initially, these monitoring devices are used to measure subtle body changes and make them apparent to the client, who begins to learn how to better control these responses. Eventually, the client attains better self-regulation without the aid of these devices.

They usually have 110 turkeys to meet the need but as of yesterday they had 60.They also need canned goods and other Thanksgiving food items.

Here is the web site for further information and a way to donate cash if you prefer. https://northcarolina.uso.org/events/333

Please continue reading for a description of The Center for Applied Psychophysiology's ongoing fundraiser to assist children in Puerto Rico vicitimized by the huricanes in 2017.

KidCope Fundraiser

This is a fundraiser for toys and essential items to provide to a Puerto Rico orphanage for abused children which was hurt by the hurricanes, hosted by East Carolina University's Center for Applied Psychophysiology." ~~ "2017 has shown North and South America and their islands one of the most devastating hurricane seasons in over a decade; Puerto Rico was ravaged by two in a row and are still in power loss. Here, in the Center for Applied Psychophysiology (CAP) at East Carolina University, we wish to help by providing affected children with toys and other essentials. While toys will not eradicate their loss, the distraction of something to play with and the hope that comes with getting something new can drastically help their grieving and coping process. To this end, CAP is holding a fundraiser in which donors have the option of buying toys and games (such as soccer balls) along with daily essentials for the children who live in these affected areas. ~~ We are working with Task Force Cobra, an Army Reserve unit stationed in Puerto Rico to provide these items to an orphanage (Hogar Niñito Jesús) in San Juan that is greatly in need. ~~ The Hogar Niñito Jesús is a home that offers shelter and protection to children (newborns to seven years of age) who are victims of abuse and they have been removed from their homes. Their mission is to make their children responsible and healthy citizens through a home experience where they receive love, medical care, good eating habits, education, safety and moral training. ~~ We have no expectations from our donors and are asking for any contribution, as just one soccer ball for this orphanage can make a huge difference in all the children. If you wish to play a part in the healing process of these children, please contribute as much or as little as you like. We thank you all for your support. Always, The CAP Team *******Please be aware that there is not a 501(c)(3) number for this to be used as a tax deductible donation. Thank you.********
