Young talented players can get by on talent alone. They can get away with laziness because they are simply more athletic. They will get more opportunities because they get better results against lesser talent but often develop a false sense of confidence because of how they are treated.

Then one day when their peers start to catch up to them, the game starts to get harder. They start to fail more. They aren’t “the man” any longer. Their confidence starts to fade and because of this, so does their passion for the game.

We’ve all seen and heard of the players who were amazing young athletes but never made it far after puberty. Early developers are fun to watch as they are often so much better but adults, be careful of how you treat them. Stop putting them on a pedestal. Don’t let them get away with foolishness. Do everything you can to help them develop a strong work ethic. The game has a way of weeding out laziness, entitlement and bad attitudes. Sometimes it’s a slow process but let’s do our part in helping them grow.

Boys are undefeated this spring season. Come out and support the Pickles today for the playoff game. With the win we play for the championship at 5:30.

These kids continue to impress the coaching staff with their skill, competitiveness, and resilience throughout every inning. Their effort, attitude, and willingness to battle no matter the situation is something truly special to watch.

We also want to take a moment to thank all of you—our parents and families—for your continued support. Your commitment, energy, and encouragement mean everything to this team and play a huge role in what we’re building together.

We’re proud of this group and excited for what’s ahead. 4 more to go!!!!

Orcutt PICKLES 4-0! Boys battled today against a great Central Coast Riptide 10U team. Walk off squeeze play to win GM 2. Words can’t express the patience, Will, love and desire these kids have for the game. Thank you, parents for your trust  and privilege to coach your player.
