Better Together!! 💙💦

Miss Emily may be out of session this week, but it gave me a rare opportunity to collaborate and learn alongside Miss Liz!

As ISR instructors, we never stop facing new challenges in the pool, and we never stop learning. Today was such a great opportunity to share ideas, learn new tips and tricks, and support one another in our shared mission: “Not One More Child Drowns.”

There’s always something new to learn, and we’re better when we learn from each other. 💙

🚨 SUMMER IS ENDING. WATER SAFETY ISN’T. 🚨

The big kids are back in school, which means it’s time to think about the littles! And if you’ve been waiting to start or refresh ISR, there are only TWO more opportunities to swim with Miss Emily before peak season returns next spring.

Indoor lessons continue all winter long!

Both new student lessons + 3 week refresher sessions for returning students available.

I have LIMITED maintenance + stroke lesson spots available at my outdoor pool in September. Let’s take advantage of this September heat wave while we can!

Drowning doesn’t have a season, and neither does our commitment to water safety and drowning prevention.

“Find Your Float”. It’s simple, but not easy. It can be the difference between an accident and a tragedy.

Benny is 21 months old and can find his float from any presentation… even a little pushover to simulate taking a tumble.

What would your child do if they tumbled into the pool? Could they find their float?

Honored to attend an event this weekend celebrating Kingston’s legacy. 🤍

Through the Honoring Kingston Fundraiser, his mom Tasha is turning unimaginable loss into a mission to help protect other children by providing ISR scholarships to families in our community.

What a beautiful way to honor Kingston — by helping give other children the gift of lifesaving skills and giving families greater peace around the water🩵

If you’re around the pool long enough, one thing you’ll hear me say is “whoops”. Not because I did something wrong (I promise 😜), but because we practice “whoops” scenarios in the pool.

For one year old Madeleine, a realistic “whoops” for her would be stumbling off the pool steps. She could be playing on the steps where she can sit or stand, lose balance, and suddenly find herself underwater. So we practice the “whoops” and let her problem solve.

We’re not just creating swimming babies as a fun party trick, we’re building aquatic problem solvers.

This is a great opportunity for a previously skilled ISR student to tune up their skills, or a kiddo from our May session that was cut short (baby Hunter says sorry about that 😅)

Maintenance time slots are also available daily beginning August 3rd

Swim time looks a little different when your mom is an ISR instructor. 💙

Harrison learned these skills last summer, but we don’t stop practicing just because he “graduated”. Survival skills can get rusty without use, so we make time to keep them fresh, build confidence, and have fun together in the water.

Competence before confidence. Skills before thrills.

There are so many new faces here, so I thought it was time to reintroduce myself!

Hi! I’m Miss Emily, the face behind Omaha Safe Swim. 👋

I’m a Nebraska girl, originally from Lincoln, and I’ve basically grown up in and around the water. I was a competitive swimmer, and I’ve been teaching swim lessons in some form since I was 13 years old.

Last June, I spent six weeks in Fort Collins, CO, becoming an ISR instructor. My biggest inspiration for pursuing ISR was my three year old son, Harrison. Before getting certified, I used to have nightmares about him drowning in our backyard pool. As I started looking into survival swim lessons, I realized how limited the ISR options were here in Omaha (huge shoutout to Liz for serving so many families with an always full schedule!). I knew our community needed more access to these life saving skills, and I wanted to be part of that mission.

Before starting Omaha Safe Swim full time, I spent nearly 10 years working in college recruiting. Making the leap to run this business has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Our family recently welcomed our second little boy, Hunter. He’s now 5 weeks old after making quite the dramatic entrance six weeks early! While his early arrival definitely threw a wrench into my summer plans, he’s doing great, and we’re soaking up this sweet (and very busy!) season as a family.

Thank you to every family who has trusted me with your child. It is truly an honor to be part of your journey. I don’t take that responsibility lightly, and I’m so grateful for this incredible Omaha community.

I’m excited for everything ahead and can’t wait to meet even more of you this fall! 💙

As Omaha Safe Swim continues to grow, I am thrilled to have a long term indoor home that allows us to provide an even better experience for our swimmers and families.
