The June Leonard Memorial

The June Leonard Memorial The June Leonard Memorial raises funds for Capital Kids Connection to help provide resources and hope for foster kids throughout Washington state.

June Leonard served in the Washington State Legislature from 1985 to 1994 and was known as the “conscience of the Legislature”. A leading advocate for children's issues and Chair of the House Human Services Committee, she was a voice of wisdom and compassion. June constantly reminded her colleagues that children in our state are suffering. She cared very deeply for children and was always looking

for the most effective ways to help kids. Beginning in 2008, a fundraising event was held annually in June's honor at the Governor’s Mansion. This event transformed into a golf tournament and auction but due to the pandemic, these events have been halted. But that doesn’t mean the need for help has stopped, if anything it has become greater. Capital Kids Connection is a non-profit that serves foster children by providing them with resources year round in the form of clothing, bedding, back to school items, wishes, toys and more. Every Christmas they fulfill wishes from foster kids through donations from the community. Please support CKC and honor the memory of June Leonard, an incredible woman who worked tirelessly to help children in Washington State and beyond.

Capital Kids Connection supports local foster and adoptive family kids to obtain much needed support and resources. They serve over 400 foster and adoptive youth in Thurston, Mason and Lewis counties with needs throughout the year. CKC provides resources such as backpacks and school supplies, award little wishes that include trips to summer camp, or a new bike and they provide holiday wishes during the month of December.

This is a tumultuous time for all of us, and especially so for kids whose home lives have often been inconsistent. During this difficult year, our regular fundraising efforts through the June Leonard Memorial have been cancelled. CKC needs you now more than ever.

Please visit https://capitalkids.org to donate. There is also a collection site at Spin Tees in West Olympia. Personal items (socks, shampoo, toothbrushes, towels etc) are very much welcome as well as are new clothing, bedding, and toys.
