I am excited to see the fall transition taking effect on the lake right in front of us! Lots of leaves are falling, the fish are biting and nature is preparing for winter. I was watching three squirrels carrying nuts to a tree all single file, it was a group effort! We have one of the most beautiful weeks yet! The mornings are crisp and cool, then the afternoons heat up. The crappies are starting their move to feed before winter comes as well. They are starting to move shallower each day. The reason for this is the bait is moving shallow due to the cooler temps. I’m catching fish a foot to foot and a half. In previous years I will start to catch them as shallow as a foot deep. The water temp the other day was 60.2 in the afternoon when it warmed up. I’m fishing the whole boat lift now. I was focused just on the fronts of them, but the fish are setting up on the back sides now. It seemed anywhere I could get a cast in between a cement wall and a lift it was guaranteed a bite. Whether you are fishing a dock, Brushpile or a lift, make sure to set shallow fish the backs of these structures. Also, I’m catching a few nice keeper bluegills along the way! Purple and chartreuse triple tail and chartreuse and monkey milk have been the go to colors this week. My rod and reel set up is a 10ft Outlaw pole with a 25 series Trion reel spooled with 6lb Slimeline! All of these items can be found at Eastside Bait and Tackle located in St. Mary’s Ohio!
