We are excited to celebrate our annual Heart of Oakley Festival on Saturday, September 19th from 11AM to 4PM in Civic Center Plaza and on Main Street from Vintage Parkway to Norcross! 🩵

We offer dance and musical theater classes for ages 2 - 18 in a welcoming environment where students can grow, learn, and build confidence. Join us for Youth Fall Break Camp from the Oakley Recreation Division, a fun filled program designed to expose children to fun, engaging and active experiences while on school break. Activities include team building, playground games, sports, art projects and more. Embrace the spring season with nature hikes, outdoor scavenger hunts, and a field day at the end of each week.

For ages 7-10, this program takes place Monday through Friday 9/28-10/02 or 10/05-10/09. Registration is available online at www.oakleyca.gov/RecRegistration or in person at the Oakley Recreation Center.

It all started 10 years ago with a birthday gift of a sewing machine! I love to make things and always willing to give something a try if asked to make something. Everything I make is unique and very rarely a duplicate. My items are fun but functional and that's important to me!

What do you love most about Oakley?
I don't live in Oakley currently, but i have lived here multiple times! Oakley is where I first moved out on my own and it became a city, so it holds a place in my heart!

💙 Heart of Oakley Vendor Highlight: Hijas del Campo

Tell us about your business:
Hijas del Campo (HDC) was founded in 2020 by East County residents in response to the marginalization and lack of services for farmworkers and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic and wildfire season. Over the last six years, HDC has grown rapidly to serve over 600 farmworker families.

Hijas del Campo is a Contra Costa County-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aims to help farmworkers, along with their families, to improve their daily lives, working conditions, health and safety. Our work centers around four pillars: food security, healthcare, housing, and education, with an added focus on workers’ rights and legal aid.

What are you most excited for at Heart of Oakley?
We love Oakley and the small town feel, we love to see the farms nestled and cared for within community.

Join the Oakley Youth Advisory Council for 🍕Pizza Palooza🍕 to learn about how YOU can cheese the day and get involved in the Oakley community.

Facts you knead-to-know:
🍕 The Oakley Youth Advisory Council is a council of youth representatives that help plan and attend events in the City for youth and their families and advise the City of Oakley on policies that pertain to our youth community.
🍕 Oakley students in grades 6th through 12th are welcome to join!
🍕 Monthly meetings are 1st & 3rd Wednesdays @ 5PM - 6PM (August - May)
🍕 This event will include FREE pizza!

Pizza Palooza will be held on Wednesday, September 16th at the Oakley Recreation Center (1250 O'Hara Ave) from 5pm to 6pm. Stop by to learn about how to become a member of the Oakley Youth Advisory Council.

What cuisine is your specialty?
Cake Pops

Tell us about your business:
The Happy Counter began from my desire to help support my family while still being home to homeschool my children. I wanted to create something that allowed me to use my creativity and truly lit my heart on fire and that’s exactly what cake pops have become for me. I want my customers to know that every cake pop is thoughtfully created with care and that bringing them joy is at the heart of everything I do. My goal is to eventually grow beyond my current permitted cottage-food operation into a dedicated kitchen space and hire a small team to help me create even more cake pops. I would love to reach a point where I can keep up with the demand, have treats readily available for the community, and never have to turn a customer away.

As an Oakley-based business, what's your favorite thing about the community?
My favorite thing about Oakley is the incredible way our community shows up for and supports small businesses. Week after week, people preorder my cake pops, get excited about each new creation, and share my business with friends, other parents, and local mom groups. The amount of love and encouragement The Happy Counter has received has truly been mind blowing, and I’m incredibly grateful to live and grow my business in this amazing community.
