Dear Camp Families,
As we are preparing to wrap up Summer 2026, I wanted to share some personal news with our camp community. After much thought, I have decided that this summer will be my final summer serving as the Director of the Oakland Recreation Summer Camp.
It is hard to put into words what these past 15 summers at ORSC have meant to me. Growing up in Oakland and attending camp as a camper myself, I always knew I wanted to be a counselor one day. What began as a summer job at 16 years old quickly became something so much bigger - a place that shaped me personally and professionally, introduced me to incredible people, and allowed me to be part of so many special memories for Oakland families.
For the past 7 summers, I have had the privilege of serving as Director, and it has truly been such a rewarding experience. Watching campers grow year after year, seeing friendships form, and helping create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for our community has meant more to me than I can express.
I also want to thank all of you for your incredible patience, flexibility, and sense of humor through some truly unforgettable summers. Together we navigated my first year as Director during a global pandemic, adapted to smoke from the Canadian wildfires, and somehow managed to dodge more air quality and weather alerts than I ever thought possible. I often joked that Mother Nature had the camp calendar bookmarked, but through every curveball, your support and understanding made all the difference.
I am incredibly grateful for the trust and support that families have shown me over the years. Thank you for allowing me to play a small role in your children's summers and for making ORSC such a special place for the past 15 summers.
