National Making Life Beautiful Day serves as a reminder that we all possess the capacity to positively impact the lives of others.

A simple, kind word can uplift the spirits of those around us. By spreading positivity and encouragement, we can contribute to a more uplifting environment. Helping someone overcome a fear or acquire a new skill can also be profoundly impactful.

Often, the most meaningful moments are not the grand gestures but rather the instances when someone believes in us and assists us in realizing our potential.

Ultimately, confidence flourishes when it is nurtured, and life becomes more beautiful when we support one another’s success.

National Red Rose Day celebrates more than just a beautiful flower.

For centuries, red roses have symbolized love, passion, courage, and deep respect. Ancient Romans associated them with Venus, the goddess of love, while in more modern history they have become one of the most recognized ways to express emotion without saying a word.

Whether given to someone special, placed in remembrance, or simply enjoyed in a garden, the red rose has remained timeless for a reason.

Memorial Day is often regarded as the unofficial commencement of summer.

Pools are heated and enjoyed, families gather, and children create enduring memories.

However, beyond the barbecues, beach days, and extended weekend traditions, this day holds a profound significance.

Memorial Day serves as a moment to pause and honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice enables many of us to enjoy the freedoms and everyday moments we often take for granted.

For many families, today transcends its status as a holiday; it serves as a poignant reminder of an individual who was deeply loved and profoundly missed.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, let us also take a moment to reflect with gratitude for those who did not return home.

Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten!

Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors.

Shavuot begins at sundown and commemorates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai more than 3,000 years ago, a defining moment in Jewish history and faith. It is a holiday rooted in tradition, learning, gratitude, and community.

Shavuot comes after 49 days of the Counting of the Omer and spiritual preparation leading up to this meaningful holiday. Shavuot is also connected to the harvest season and the bringing of the first fruits to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

Families celebrate by lighting candles, attending synagogue, and hearing the reading of the Ten Commandments. Many also stay up late to study Torah, gather around the table with loved ones, and enjoy traditional dairy foods such as cheesecake and blintzes.

At its heart, Shavuot is a reminder that faith, wisdom, kindness, and tradition are meant to be shared and passed from generation to generation.

Wishing our Swim With Gale families a meaningful, peaceful, and joyful Shavuot.

Learning to swim is more than just getting the hang of strokes and how to do them. It is also about learning how to stay safe, feeling confident, and getting ready to save lives, either your own or someone else's.

At Swim With Gale, we firmly believe that acquiring a few fundamental water safety skills can significantly enhance children’s safety, calmness, and confidence in and around the water. This confidence carries far beyond the pool. It follows families to beaches, lakes, vacations, pool parties, and everyday moments near water.

Individual learning styles necessitate personalized instruction and a conducive learning environment. When children are encouraged and feel supported, they develop self-confidence in the water, overcoming their fears and gaining the belief that they can achieve their goals. We emphasize the thought, “If I try, I can do it!”

Whether your goal is water safety, building confidence, or helping your child become a stronger swimmer, Swim With Gale focuses on creating skills that last a lifetime.

Most people assume they know what happens when you hold your breath in the water. Do you?

When you hold your breath, carbon dioxide (CO₂) builds up in your blood while oxygen levels begin to drop. This can lead to fatigue, tension, and that strong, anxious urge to breathe.

Here is what most people do not realize:

That urgent feeling to breathe is not caused by low oxygen.
It is caused by rising carbon dioxide.

This matters because oxygen can fall to unsafe levels before the body sends a clear warning. In some cases, this can lead to shallow water blackout, where a swimmer loses consciousness underwater.

A simple shift can make a difference: blowing bubbles in the water instead of holding your breath.

Letting air out helps reduce carbon dioxide buildup and supports a more natural, steady breathing pattern.

Holding your breath may feel like control.

Steady breathing supports calm, awareness, and safer swimming.

Understanding how the body responds in the water can make a meaningful difference for swimmers of all ages.
