📌 Veterans Update: During the government shutdown, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has confirmed that essential services will remain in place.

✅ VA Medical Centers, Outpatient Clinics, and Vet Centers will continue operating as usual.
✅ VA will continue processing and delivering benefits, including compensation, pension, education, and housing.
✅ Burials and applications for headstones, markers, and burial benefits will proceed.
✅ The Board of Veterans’ Appeals will continue making decisions on Veterans’ cases.

In short, VA claims will continue to be processed throughout the shutdown.

Transitioning out of the military often raises an important question: What VA benefits am I entitled to, and how do I access them?

As a veteran, dependent, or surviving spouse, you may qualify for a wide range of benefits. The first step is confirming eligibility. From there, the challenge becomes knowing where to file, how to build a strong claim, and how to secure the highest possible disability rating. The process can feel complex, but help is out there to guide you through it.

One of the most common benefits—and the one most people refer to when they say “VA benefits”—is disability compensation. This support is crucial, since many veterans return home with conditions that require medical care, and compensation ensures they receive what they’ve rightfully earned.

The VA uses your individual or combined disability rating to determine your monthly payment and eligibility for additional benefits. If you have multiple disabilities, the VA applies a special formula known as “VA math” to calculate your combined rating. Keep in mind, this final number may not equal the simple total of your individual ratings.
