Several popular swimming spots on the Green River in Colrain are now CLOSED (see updated clarification, below)
There are lots of new “no parking” and “no trespassing" signs which were put up by local landowners June/July 2020 at the request of the Colrain Police department.
Police are towing cars in front of "no parking" signs (and can do so without warning). They said they will enforce the new “no trespassing” signs (issue a criminal citation) if people do not leave when requested. Please note that private property extends to the water.
With so many other options closed due to the pandemic, this is obviously terrible timing for those who are seeking some relief from the heat and a beautiful place to enjoy the water with their family this summer. Unfortunately many local residents and emergency response personnel have expressed that that are “at their wits end” with all of the traffic, cars parked in ways that block the road (emergency vehicles were delayed from reaching a situation last year because of cars parked in the road along the river), and an increasing trend of large parties leaving loads of trash (and human f***s) for locals to pick up. There are also concerns around COVID-19, with Colrain still under a "state of emergency."
Hopefully there will be a time in the near future when there can be shared access to this common heritage of the river.

UPDATE 7/6/20 - Clarification from Colrain - MA Police Department: "The Green River is not closed. The majority of the popular swimming areas/beaches are owned by residents and have posted their property as private. The water is not private property. HOWEVER you cannot use private land to access the water. You can walk up and down the river and swim. Your belongings and yourself cannot be on the posted land. Again, you also cannot walk through the posted land to enter the water. You have to find another way to access the water which is available through the fish and wild life property.
Again these beaches are private property. You still may see vehicles parked there. The land owners have given some people permission to be on there land. The people the police department are asking to leave is those who do not have a specific invitation to use there land. Those who do are on a list of names given to the police department from the land owner letting us know who is allowed to be there and who isn't. Thank you."

Varios lugares populares para nadar en el Río Verde en Colrain ahora están CERRADOS
Hay muchos nuevos letreros de "no estacionarse" y "no entrar sin autorización" que los propietarios locales colocaron a pedido del departamento de policía de Colrain.
La policía está remolcando autos frente a las señales de "no estacionarse" (y pueden hacerlo sin previo aviso). La policía amenaza con hacer una citación criminal si las personas no se van. La propiedad privada se extiende hasta el agua.
Con tantas otras opciones cerradas debido a la pandemia, este es obviamente un momento terrible para aquellos que buscan alivio del calor y un hermoso lugar para disfrutar del agua con su familia este verano. Desafortunadamente, muchos residentes locales y el personal de respuesta a emergencias están muy molestos con todo el tráfico, los automóviles que bloquean el camino y una tendencia creciente de grandes fiestas que dejan mucha basura (incluidos pañales y heces) para que los vecinos locales recojan. ACTUALIZACIÓN 6/6/20 - Aclaración del Departamento de Policía de Colrain: "El Green River no está cerrado. La mayoría de las zonas de baño populares son propiedad de residentes y han publicado sus propiedades como privadas. El agua no es propiedad privada. SIN EMBARGO use tierra privada para acceder al agua. Puede caminar río arriba y abajo y nadar. Sus pertenencias y usted no pueden estar en la tierra publicada. De nuevo, tampoco puede caminar a través de la tierra publicada para ingresar al agua. Tiene que encontrar otro forma de acceder al agua que está disponible a través de la propiedad Fish and Wildlife.
De nuevo, estas playas son propiedad privada. Aún puede ver vehículos estacionados allí. Los propietarios de la tierra han dado permiso a algunas personas para estar allí. Las personas que el departamento de policía está pidiendo que se vayan son aquellas que no tienen una invitación específica para usar sus tierras.
