Joshima Budo

Joshima Budo Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaijutsu is Japanese style of swordsmanship which emphasizes drawing the sword and cutting in a single fluid motion.

Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu is a 'koryu bujutsu' (which means 'traditional martial art') with a direct lineage back over 450 years to its founder, Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu, who developed this particular style of swordsmanship. The curriculum encompasses the practice of solo techniques, paired kata, and also live-blade cutting. These three components serve to reinforce and improve each other to ma

ke the student of iai-jutsu aware of proper body mechanics, focus, and technique for the effective use of the sword. Iaido requires precise technique and concentration during practice. These things require a great deal of self-discipline and commitment on the part of the student in order to master. As a reward for these efforts, it can offer the individual a lifetime of physical, mental, and spiritual growth, as well as an enlightened and peaceful state of mind.

A new entry in our dojo blog!

Today, I’d like to start a series of posts talking about some famous stories of Japanese Swordsmanship. In addition to practicing and teaching budo, I am a practicing artist, as well. I’ve just completed a series of pieces inspired by some of the (many) interesting stories and people from Koryu ...

Well, it appears we haven't posted much here in...quite a while. So, here goes!
We've moved our study group to a new dojo! We're now in North Kingstown, RI! We're now focusing on our kenjutsu practice of Ono-ha Itto Ryu! Tonight is the first night of a short series of classes we're doing on Swordsmanship basics (you should come)! We've added a blog feature to the website and you can see the first one here: https://www.joshimabudo.com/blog !
That's all for now. In theory, we'll check in again before another 8 years go by.

It is with a heavy heart and tearful contemplation that we share the following sorrowful news. Our KNBK brother, Sensei Richard McKeever, has been taken from us after a long and courageous struggle. The strength and courage he taught us throughout his life and hard fought battles lifted us up to be better people than we ever believed possible. The love and respect that he and Dolores shared for each other exemplified a fairytale love that the world has been blessed to witness. I have always referred to them as our KNBK Mom and Dad McKeever. Dicks love for Budo and Dolores' lifetime of support for his passion has given us all a standard for which to strive to attain. We will miss you my dear friend. Many tears have already been shed. Our sincere thoughts and prayers will continue to be offered for Dolores and their children and grandchildren. Sweet dreams to you kind sir. You deserve rest in the hands that give comfort and grace.

This past Thursday, Richard McKeever, our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. My father cherished life and the love of family. He was always there to lend a helping hand, give his support, and hum a Broadway show tune along the way. I will miss him greatly and grateful to God that He gave me such an amazing father.

We will be celebrating his life this coming weekend by gathering for visitation on Friday May 12th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 5541 Main Street (at Cayuga Rd.) Williamsville, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday morning May 13th at 9:30 at SS Peter & Paul Church, Williamsville. Please assemble at the church. Flowers gratefully declined. Instead, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati - Blue Ash. (www.hospiceofcincinnati.org)

Awesome training this morning. We worked through all of the oku batto-ho, and practiced some katachi. All while the snow fell and we felt like the only ones stirring on the block!

Katachi tonight! It's grey and slow outside, let's shake the walls and scare away the clouds.

We had a most excellent time at Shindokan Dojo - Classical Japanese Sword & Jujutsu this past weekend, practicing Ono-Ha Itto-Ryu Kenjutsu. It was, as always, wonderful to see everyone, and get some time on the mat with our extended Budo family. Thank you to Johnstone Sensei for hosting, and to Long Sensei for offering such in-depth instruction (not to mention making the trip!).

Hi Everyone!

Due to the continuing stupidity of the weather, I'm going to be cancelling class tonight. The roads are terrible. Stay home and warm.
